Tell me about the color.

This is what it comes down to if you don't have a good monitor. Laptop monitors are notoriously bad in general, although I'm sure there must be a few good ones out there somewhere, and ditto for many work monitors if they're not meant to be used to view photographs.

I know this work computer has a bit of a green cast and is not good at the low end of the gamma scale, so I don't usually comment on color or shadow detail when I'm here. My computer at home checks out very well against the scales and charts on some of the web sites, and also is consistent with prints that I've had made, so I have confidence in that.

I like the first image, although it is a bit green on this monitor, but that doesn't count for reasons stated previously.

What I see is that the first shot has a strong green tint, noticeable especially in the whites, and the second shot has a blue-green tint to the whites. Neither is 100 percent pleasing on the whites of the furniture, although the popcorn box's whites look okay, so that makes me think the furniture was not truly "white" to begin with. Was there a blue and black dress somewhere nearby, causing a color cast?

+1 If I could rate that post agree and funny at the same time I would. Agreeably Funny!!

Aesthetically though the first has color that is more pleasing but not perfectly pleasing. (I think it needs a tidbit more of an orange cast)

I still have the ColorMunki calibrator. I'm just worried about trying it again because it messed up my laptop for a while. The color profile would not load properly when waking the computer up again, and then for a while, it would load the calibrated profile and revert about 3 seconds later. When I opened up Corel, it would go to calibrated settings, and then revert when I used another application, and then wouldn't load it again when going back to Corel.

Supposedly there was some issue with compatibility with Windows 7? I'm not sure. It took me days to figure out how to finally get rid of the calibrated profile so it would stop switching back and forth randomly. I'm not sure I want to use it again to calibrate the new monitor and risk that mess again.

I've edited the OP to include a third version. A few tweaks to bring down the blues and greens and up the reds a smidgen. Not sure if it's far enough.

And just as a curiosity, I tried the "Balance White Balance" tool and this is what it gave me:


It's very strange. It's never done that to me before. And as I'm testing it on other pictures, that tool seems to have gotten all messed up somehow.

The retro look of the first seems to go well with the image. Guess it depends on what the purpose of this image is. But I prefer #1.

As for the Change, don't let it scare you, you'll get used to it pretty quickly. It's not that bad as might seem. Lots of same people are still here.
