The Coffee House

Heater was on this morning, think the aircon needs put on this afternoon😱. I dont want summer to come!

Sorry, I feel your pain. :( Or well, I felt it back in May when it was starting for us in the top half of the globe. I can't stand summer.

On another note..... Watched a LOTR movie on my new 65" LG C4 OLED tv and OMG :icon_biggrin: It;s my first OLED tv and if you have never owned one then you cant believe the picture quality which seriously is unreal.

I've been struggling with a less than satisfactory internet through ATT. Both Verizon and TMobile are now offering 5G service here at speeds 5x's faster then what I have now at about $20/mo less. The only thing is my tortoise service now is wired, so weather isn't a factor. The tested wireless signal for both Verizon & Tmobile is about 3-4 bars. So anyone using either of these 5g services? Good, bad, ugly??

I logged into my Adobe Account today to download the apps on my Macbook. Then I noticed something that looked weird. It showed I have two of the same plans with different billing dates. I'm uh oh...so I checked my bank account and sure enough, I been paying TWICE for the past 6 months. I contacted Adobe about this and apparently it was a "technical glitch" but they are refunding me all of the payments in full. So if any of you subscribe to any of the Creative Cloud plans, I encourage you to go double check make sure you ain't being charged twice!!!!

Hi all, three days of rain expected here
Today is day two, so much surface flooding. The motorway was so bad that I exited early and used the old B road to get home.
Drivers doing 70 mph plus in heavy rain, spray and fog.
Could not see more than 200 yards…

We've been resisting switching to 5G because we have solid fiber service to the house right now via AT&T.

On a related note, Verizon is going to buy Frontier expand their fiber offerings, which is ironic because they sold Frontier their fiber business to begin with. Verizon had decent Customer Service, but Frontier was not good.

It's always good to get off the freeway during heavy rain for that reason. Once someone starts to hydroplane at 70mph they become a deadly hazard for all the other drivers nearby.

Well, I'm finally a homeowner. The deed transfer came to the mailbox the day after we returned from Maine. Now to reaLLY get going on cleaning everything out and decide what we really need remodeled. If we were planning on staying several years, we would try to do it all, but since we want to sell before MLW retires, we have to make some choices. There is still some electrical work to get finiashed so that's high on the list. After that, yard work/landscaping, bathrooms, basement remodel, some plaster work, and painting. It's a lot but I won't be doing most of the work. The roof, windows, exterior doors, kitchen remodel, and chimney cleaning and relining (basement fireplace firebox replaced) have been done.

Congrats!! It must feel good to have reached this stage.

It's *almost* fun to turn a house into a little showpiece, while knowing you won't be there long enough to really enjoy it. Do you really think a basement remodel is necessary? Totally agree on basics like electrical work, plaster and painting. Spruced up landscaping gives a place curb appeal.

I'd be tempted to find a real estate agent and have them do a walk through and get advice. It's basically free advice from someone with an eye for what you need to get a fair price while keeping some money back for your final home. If that makes sense. In our case we were having to sell in a buyer's market so we could move to Texas fairly quickly for family reasons. That meant doing a lot of extra $tuff we wished we could have passed on, but our realtor was grimly firm. We did sell it quickly, so she was correct, but it wasn't cheap.

In other news - Happy Friday, hosers! :icon_sunny:

Happy Friday Hosers! Tonight's dinner was pepper garlic beef tips, parsley potatoes, and asparagus with lemon butter, all paired with a nice flavorful chianti. Tomorrow and Sunday are supposed to be gorgeous, sunny days, so I might actually get to go on a photo walkabout without fear of heatstroke or getting drenched in a downpour. Fingers crossed.

The basement is dark. Dad out up paneling that looks likr rough-cut barn siding andvthe floor is dark brown and creal linoleum tiles (possible asbestos content). Ceiling was popcorn coated partical board. We really wsnt to lighten it up, so white beadboard panels and white tile ceiling, though now we’ll probably just drywall and paint. Thinking epicy garage floor covering over the linoleum. Replacevthe shower inserr (surface mold) snd we’ll pretty much bre done in there.

One of the Jerpers is a realtor so we’ll ssk hrr to come up; she can handke the sale if shecwants it. She pointed us in the right direction to get the deed transfered.

The general game plan is sell our’s first, put our crap in storage, and move in with MLSIL until we find the place in Maine. Once we have that place, if I am retired then I will move there with the kitty, and the two ladies will follow. If I haven’t retired, then MLSIL will go to ME. She is on 100% telework or she can retire. Finally, when MLW retires at the end of 2025, she’ll move up and we’ll sell MLSIL’s place.

Mrs Magpies eggses weren't fertile shes off her nest🤬. This happened in 21 with Stormy and his sibling who died in the nest but they bonked again and tried a 2nd time.

I buried Stormys brother or sister.

Ps. Edit I'll check again up the road a little later again.

Sounds like a solid plan! I love the look of epoxy floors, especially in a garage. I'd like to eventually get the unfinished part of my basement done that way.

You must be getting excited. :sexywink:

Hosers - it's overcast, windy and currently 58F outside. A late summer cold snap! Tonight's low is 45F. 😲 Hard to believe that we'll be back up into the 80s by next week, but that's what we're being promised.

Heya Hosers! How's things? Today was a beautiful day! Clear skies and it stayed in the upper 80's with lower humidity. Went on a walk along the lake, and it was just awesome. I took my camera, and I did get some shots, but more importantly, the walk itself was fantastic. There is a lot of green, especially some sort of legume, and the air smelled of greenery and the lake. It was incredible. Many folks go to church, or synagogue, or mosque, or whatever, but the best place to connect spiritually (if one is so inclined) is in nature. Posting pics in the General Gallery.
