What's new

The Coffee House

Well the photography group met last night, I'll keep an open mind but it's probably not going to be what I'm looking for. 18 people showed up so the turn out wasn't bad, only 3 men in the group, and I'm the oldest by probably 30 years at least.🫣 Two Mom's with cameras with limited experience and the rest none. At least one of the women there I knew from a previous group.
Sounds like you are the new professor! Is the group to learn their cameras? Or for fun challenges?

Our church sponsors a variety of small groups on various subjects to create more personal relationships. There will be some group shooting and practice but I doubt there will be any challenges

Air quality advisories all over S. Ontario into tomorrow. Chain smoke a pack of Lucky Strikes to get an idea of it. Nasty!
Eww. We've had an advisory or two but nothing alarmist. Rained all last night and a good portion of today, which apparently helps clear the atmosphere.

Put them thar fires out, neighbor!

Too many bears playing with matches again in Saskatchewan...

My other hobby.....even more expensive than photography 🤪 got out yesterday, beautiful day on the water, not much wind, unfortunately the fish weren't interested in what I was putting out. I was just about ready to call it a day, when this one decided to humor me. Always nice to end the day on a good note. Released back to fight another day.

Howdy Folks! Happy Friday! Just got back from a road trip to Richmond VA to attend my lil' sis's wedding. It's always nice to see the mountains and they are bursting with green right now, and while it takes a lot longer, I prefer the drive to flying. The drive was fairly uneventful, although a couple of accidents slowed things down. "One of these days..." I'll be retired and not have a time schedule, and I plan to take my time on the drive to visit the various campgrounds and scenic wonders and have a nice drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Richmond was nice, and the temps were in the upper 50's/lower 60's for the most part during our stay. Quite chilly for RVA at the end of May/beginning of June. Did a walking tour of "The Fan" with my brother and nephew and got some nice shots, I think. It's a beautiful area of the city with lots of historic houses, including a castle that was imported brick by brick from France. Will go through them later in the weekend, no energy today... 🤣

In other news, my towering sunflower, Lurch, was felled by a storm. RIP Lurch. My Autumn Beauty sunflowers survived, so at least I'll have some sunflowers. I planted a Japanese purple sweet potato that didn't get used, and it looks wonderful. Will have to get a good pic of it. The temps are in the lower 90's here, and humid, and I mowed the lawn which is why I have almost no energy left.

Congratulations to Princess on her graduation @SquarePeg ! That's a great milestone in life.

Sounds like a wonderful trip! Who doesn't love a road trip every now and then?

Richmond's weather seems similar to what we've had - a cooler than usual spring that's now extended to early summer! I'd still rather be on the cooler side than sweating by March, but geez.

Based on the history from AccuWeather, this has been unusually cool.

My condolences for Lurch. 🙏 He was gorgeous!

Nice largemouth. I’m not sure if I posted these. From our little dock a couple weeks ago. Maybe 20 minutes each of two days. No shot of the 4” or 5” yellow perch or hand-size bluegill the first evening.

@snowbear the spring Crappie run is over, they're back in deep water, the Bluegill are just starting, and the warmer water is bringing in the Bass to feed in the shallows.

My new-to-me camera has arrived. I can't believe how new the camera is. It's literally brand new, not a mark on it and it even has that new smell. Only 2k on the shutter. $575 for a full frame 24mp camera with a tilt screen? I think I did alright. Tomorrow I should have a brand new 50mm 1.8G that I got for $100 shipped. Hopefully it's good, still sealed in the box!

Rockets have been on my mind lately. After a lot of informal research, I found this video, posted by "PBS America", on May 16, 2025, It is the start of a multi-part series [NOTE: Very long -- 1:54:02]:

"Chasing the Moon - A Place Beyond the Sky - Episode 1 (2018) | Full Documentary",

The dam gets opened in two weeks so the fish run can be installed. The water level will drop about eight feet (about half) until next spring, so I guess I’ll be traveling again, to fish.
