What's new

The Coffee House

It's been such a wet spring, everything is so green. Must be that's why we call it The Green Mountain state lol.

Well, my excitement is having been kissed by a honeybee. I went to get dog food, and when I got in the car, I felt a tickle on my cheek. I brushed it off and a bee dropped on the passenger seat. I got out, walked around the car, and opened the door, being the gentleman that I am, and it flew off, and we both went our merry way.
In my early teenage years a teacher got me interested in beekeeping. I saved my money till I had enough to buy the equipment and the teacher provided me with a swarm from his hive. The Bees were flourishing and it came time to open the hive to add the first Super (the section where they store the honey we can take).

My father standing a far bit away from me was laughing and teasing me as I slipped on coveralls, gloves, taped my sleeves and pant legs, and put on my helmet with netting. I was determined no bee was going to surprise me. I did everything the teacher had instructed me to do, smoking the entrance to sedate the Bees. To this day I don't know what I did wrong, because the instant I cracked the lid on the hive, they swarmed out....everywhere! They were p****d!

Dad moved a few feet farther back his laughter turning to concern. However, I still wasn't concerned as I was prepared...I thought. As my eye caught close movement, they came to focus on a little bugger who had slipped under the netting and was about to land on my nose. Being a kid, when trouble befalls you, the first inclination is to run to your Dad for help....which I did, along with the whole $%&# swarm of angry Bees circling me.

I never will forget how wide his eyes looked as he saw me coming...with Bees. The faster he ran, the harder I ran to catch up. He ended up getting stung multiple times, me none. The little bugger inside the mesh was content to watch the show going on around him, and eventually the swarm returned to the hive. Next day Dad, after some of the swelling in his face had gone down, called the teacher and told him to come get the hive, so ended my bee keeping experience. :smug:

Started my last day off for this week with a good cup of my own coffee blend. OK, I am not a coffee roaster making my own blends but I did have only 2 scoops of Folger's Black Silk left that was blended with and additional 3 scoops of Folger's Columbian. Good stuff!

I am contemplating washing my motorcycle today and "waxing" it with this space age new stuff that says it is "ceramic" and portends to be better than old school wax.

I like to take my Camera with me when I ride as I can quickly pull over when I see a shot.

Today I do not have the luxury of an uninterrupted day as I have a list of things to accomplish including mowing my grass, a quick trip to the store, and a mandatory safety meeting at work. Bah humbug, at least they are feeding us at these meetings. Today we are having BBQ from a former co-worker that was injured and retired. He makes excellent BBQ and has begun catering events in our area.

I think I'm going to need a day off to recover from my day off.

Boomer (son #1) and his wife should be here Sunday. We're trying to get the house, at least presentable: unpacking boxes, moving stuff to basement for storage, ordering and installing curtains. It's supposed to rain tomorrow, so I guess I need to put the doors back on the truck.

It's nice to see Luke feeling a little normal. This is the first time he jumped on my desk for quite a while. Sucks having to make him wear that e-collar but it doesn't seem to bother him a whole lot, he just needs to leave his wounds alone and let his hair grow back so he's going to be wearing it for a few weeks anyways.

Hey y'all.

Coming up for a bit of air. Semester is over, but still plenty going on to keep me busy, mostly because I'm a foolish fool who can't leave well enough alone. I'm not only taking some professional development courses online, but I've also been designing one as well with the folks at the SUNY Center for Professional Development. Oh, and this week is my annual AP Eng Lang test scoring. It's the start of Day Three.

I do have a vacation coming up in just over 2 weeks. I suspect the first day will involve a lot of naps

Oh no, what happened to Luke? Poor little guy. (You might have posted this already but I've missed too many pages to backread 😵‍💫 )

Not entirely sure. He started to dig at his neck and caused a lot of scratches, bled a lot and lost his fur around the neck and other places too. Took him to the vet and they gave him some injections and he has to take medicine everyday. They think it could have been some kind of infection, allergic reaction or parasite of sorts. But also could be something underlying so waiting for the blood work to come back. He lost a lot of weight as well very quickly but he wasn't eating either. However since then he has gained over a pound back and his wounds has healed up almost completely plus hair is growing back and he's looking a lot better so hopefully it's nothing bad. They're concerned he has thyroid disease but the weight gain is a good sign. He's also playing now too which is also another good sign.

@snowbear Same here, we painted and put down new carpet in the master suit. In prep we had to box up everything and move to main level. Monday the movers came, moved the furniture, took most of two days to remove the old and install the new, Thursday morning movers came again, and we are on the 3rd day of unpacking, cleaning and putting the house back in order.

I hope the bloodwork shows nothing serious, just hopefully a temporary reaction to something. Glad he's feeling better! :pumpformylove:

They opened the dam sometime this morning. I suppose it will take a little while to drain; the pond is about 1,900 acres (almost 769 hectares).

I love them!! (shocker, right?) I love the pale coats.

Captain Wow is an extraordinarily perfect name for a little guy. 🏆 Too bad you were overruled! I may have to steal it some day.

Halfway through day 5 (of 7) of scoring AP essays, and here's how it's going, hosers:

I got the blood work back from my cat, it's not good news. He has chronic kidney disease. The vet said that he's extremely early in the stages like barely stage 1 and it progresses really slowly. They're gonna give us some medicated food so he's gonna have to be on a special diet to prolong his life. I'm taking it really hard, been crying for the past hour or so. It's really hard for me as he's been my emotional support animal for the last 7 years or so and I'm not ready for this to happen. I don't know what to do how to process this or even how to move on with my life too because I feel like I'm falling apart right now, I don't know how I'm going to sleep or eat. But I can't let myself become depressed because then it will affect my cat too. I'm scared and I feel sick to my stomach.
