What's new

The Coffee House

The dam gets opened in two weeks so the fish run can be installed. The water level will drop about eight feet (about half) until next spring, so I guess I’ll be traveling again, to fish.
We are the first of three lakes dammed for hydroelectric and the largest (32,000 acres give or take). Our levels can fluctuate during periods of heavy rain, but AP does a pretty good job of regulating water flow to balance all three lakes. In the winter they drop the level four feet to allow for surge and to keep down plant growth in the shallows. It gets to shallow to get in to our dock during that time, but there's sufficient other ramps close by to access the deeper water if you really want to fish.

I haven't had much time to play with the Nikon D750 - I had a couple IT repair jobs today for two businesses. But so far I'm really enjoying the camera. Very comfortable grip and that shutter sounds satisfying. Yes the mirrorless Z6II I had was superior but the auto focus on the D750 is really good.

It's so hazy here due to the wild fires in Canada.

The sky lit up orange and the sun was really, really red.

Just some wild flowers.

The images are pretty much indistinguishable from the Z6II files to be honest. Perhaps lowlight it will be more noticeable due to the BSI sensor on the Z6 and the Z glass. It makes me sad people toss their F mount glass as if it's junk. They're so cheap now and yet they are just as good as the Z mount glass. I'm excited to get some of the lenses I loved when I took my favorite photos with.

New isn't always better.
I loved the 70-200 f/4 vr. It was small, light and sharp. I remember paying $1200 for it used some years ago and now they are like $400 😵‍💫

It's like people just give them away.

The water level on the pond ("Great Pond" to use the correct Maine term) is lowered for the winter; docks don't need to be pulled out. You have to walk a short distance but ice fishing as well as snow-mobile/trail bike/SxS riding is possible. The communities arounf the pond also take the early winter to clean up along the shore.; In this case, it comes down in a couple weeks, then back up next spring. They did the engineering study this past winter so they should be good to go. The hope is alewives will be able to migrate in and provifde forage for the bigger fish. I believe the state currently stocks alewives; I suspect they will continue to supplement until the natural reaches sustainablilty.

I got a more comfortable e-collar for the kitty. This stops him from scratching at his wounds that are healing and he can easily eat and roam around the house without much of an issue. He doesn't look happy but he is on drugs currently haha.

This time of the year, it is not unusual for the sky to be overcast. What is unusual though, is that sometimes it is not caused by normal atmospheric effects of humidity and temperature. This year, and sometimes in past years, it is caused by smoke carried over Toronto from forest fires, sometimes farther than the provincial boarder.

In order to show the cloud density more clearly, I have adjusted the picture by darkening it slightly. However, I think it is within a range that more modern cameras might produce automatically. I have left the contrast unchanged. I do think that it has more contrast than modern cameras would have left in. So shadows are, therefore a bit overly dark.

Cool! Hopefully they won't ask for $$$ to cover shipping and handling. I've had that happen a few times. :uncomfortableness:

Hopefully not. He said he would send me a copy when its finished. Its just one artist putting this project together at a loss for tribute of something.

Well, my excitement is having been kissed by a honeybee. I went to get dog food, and when I got in the car, I felt a tickle on my cheek. I brushed it off and a bee dropped on the passenger seat. I got out, walked around the car, and opened the door, being the gentleman that I am, and it flew off, and we both went our merry way.

Was it a bumble bee? They are pretty friendly generally 😁
