Been busy today! Was out running around wrapping up my Christmas shopping this morning then had a nice long walk at the local woods with our little crew of friends and pups. Harlie has more friends than I do lol. There’s still a light coating of snow on the ground here but it was a nice day - sunny and no wind.

When I was growing up on the farm, it's what we got as we headed out the door to do chores. Only difference was the bologna was a hand sliced thick piece. It came in large stick from a local packing house that made their old family recipe. Nothing today compares.

Japan's Giant Robotics Show (IREX)

In past years I occasionally found the "IREX" show in Japan. This is a industry/trade show that covers the "robotics" industry. A long time ago it was mainly a show for concept models. Apparently, these days it is populated more with real industrial robots. Moreover, the biggest participation has shifted to China. This 27 min clip was posted to YouTube by"PRO ROBOTS" on Dec 14, 2025:

I got the passport book today. I'm debating a drive up to St Stephens, NB or Campabello Isl. this week or next.

I started painting the 24" nutcrackers for MLSIL. The softwood doesn't take the acrylic as stain very well, so I'm going full-on paint. There are no facial features, so I'll probably just leave them blank though I thought of putting on adhesive googly eyes.

@snowbear with softwood I've used the paint and wipe method. Paint the piece full paint then partially wipe it off.

Another day for me, just like the one before. Daily appointments middle of the day, messes up the whole day, to cold to be outside anyhow. Need to paint master bath, but so close to Christmas need to wait till after.

Taking Harlie for her monthly allergy shot today then I am going to get started on wrapping some gifts. Harlie is so exhausted from our hike yesterday that she is barely able to get up and down the stairs. We didn’t go any farther or higher than usual but my friend brought her niece’s dog Sadie along. She’s a young pup and loves to run run run and Harlie loves to chase anything that runs away! The woods we walked in are alongside a golf course so there were many spots for the dogs to run full out. We did just over 12,000 steps but the dogs probably did 5x that as they ran out and back over and over. Expecting another warm (for December) day today. I may get those outdoor lights working yet!

Or using alcohol- or oil-based stains or paints might help. These are just craft-level acrylics; I didn't want to use my more expensive artist level paints, though I didn't pick up white so I'll have to use the good stuff for that.

We wanted to put up the string bulbs to add some light to the front porch. The usual porch light is OK, but there is no light at the steps. The other issue is we change the porch light to green when we are expecting a delivery at night, so it's easier to find the house. We started doing this before we got the number sign in the yard. The number sign is reflective blue with while numbers so it's fairly easy to see but some delivery folks do not pay attention and don't see the sign at night. The strings are working fine - they bulbs are alternated between red and green, then switch colors every second or so. I'll do greeen and white, or maybe green white and orange for St. Patrick's day.

I like to change our outdoor display every year. This year I was just planning on putting out our old indoor Christmas tree with some outdoor lights on it and I have a lighted wreath on the front door. The lights I put on the tree stopped working and I need to figure out why.

I've used everything from cheap latex/oil base to spray cans. Working as layers helps.

Well its been 8 weeks to the day since I had my hip replaced. I am finally ready to venture out this coming weekend to see if I get a few shots.

I've also started to try and print on Canvas. I bought a 17" x 50' roll of Red River Palo Duro Satin Canvas which I can easily cut to the length i want. I also purchased a set of stretcher bars to frame the prints. Not sure how it will turn out but trying something different.
