Really?!? I thought they always moved around together, and we've seen this guy a few times, always by himself. Wow!

He's big, too, and I guess I also assumed he was too large to be a wild turkey. But, what the heck do I know?

She is a big one. Males are even larger, especially when strutting around puffed up.

Ah, sounds like you know your turkeys! That male is easily recognizable.

Still seems my little back yard is an odd place for her to have wandered through, more than once. We're packed in here in my little city.

Honestly I have spent a lot of time in the woods in my life. Oddly enough I didn't lay eyes on a wild turkey (that didn't come in a bottle) until my 30s.

Turkeys are smarter than you might think. Last fall there was a small flock hanging around a neighborhood in the middle of my town where you couldn't get a clear shot on one even with a bow.

We have a white domestic turkey across the Main Street, to the left, and a few brown “wild” turkeys owned by someone over on the right. The neighbor on the right came over and asked if he could look around the back yard, one had gone AWOL. He mentioned a breed, so I guess they have breeds looked chickens. I have a shot of some brown/wild walking around a while ago, and saw a flock (?) down the state road a bit, in an open field.

Too early for bees around here - so far! I expect this to change within the next couple of weeks.

Hosers - it's 81°F right now! We topped out yesterday at 80°F.

I'm enjoying it immensely today, since it's going to turn rainy and icky tomorrow - but the temps will still be in the 70sF.

This is definitely a warmer April than last year - and, after back to back Polar vortex episodes this winter where it got down to -7°F (that's minus 7!), I'm very happy.

I took a photo today! Trying to force myself out of my shell. A bee pic that I'll put in the nature/wildlife forum.

The wasps are out in force here. I did see one bee on the porch camera.

Yeah... Mr. Brilliant here was knocking down apache paper wasp nests over the garage door and the patio... serves me right if I get stung... they can go build around the side of the house where nobody sits...

Converted tractor over for summertime duties and cut the grass yesterday. Man I'm paying for that today. Getting old is cruel. Especially when you forget you're old and act like you're not.

Eye Dr appointment this afternoon. Not looking forward to diagnosis.

I know, right? I'm still paying for last weekends activities.

Because most businesses don't have a "product" that is paid by 3rd parties which hold them hostage by their feet schedule allowances. Healthcare shouldn't be a business. It's unique.

Good news on the outcome!

Tricare kicked me out because when I turned 65 I didn't take Medicare Part B, which is a requirement, but I still work full time and have great insurance through my employer. They'll let me back in the program once I sign up for Medi Part B, but that may be a couple of years yet.

Here is my turkey story... years ago in San Angelo, TX, a friend and I went out turkey hunting (I don't do that stuff with a firearm anymore) the day after Christmas, and we found a great place to situate ourselves. We were in full ghilli suits, because turkeys have incredible eye sight an will spot you a mile off. Well, no turkey that day, because some yayhoo got himself a new .45 revolver and was out walking around twirling it in and out of his holster like he's Wyatt Earp. He walks down the road behind us, and a few minutes later comes back down the treeline in front of us. Now his peacemaker is holstered, so when he gets right in front of me, I say, "Howdy!" The dude wet himself, because we were so well blended in he didn't even know we were there. Hindsight says I'm lucky I didn't get shot... lol
