The verdict is in:
I can NOT stand in the new kayak.
I have been using my sot fishing kayak so long I have forgotten how tippy a sit in can be.
I am quite sure sitting in the kayak doing nothing stupid I will stay dry. But I won't be able to just swing around to get pics of birds.

Many years ago I had a 15-foot canoe (Coleman). I could stand in that though it took some effort.

I have an Oru Lake, and found that there is no standing in that thing, and absolutely keep away from the shoreline on the lake, because the boat wakes will swamp it in a heartbeat. On the positive side, it's easy to dump over to drain out. It is more of a calm river or lake kind of kayak, but it is easy to transport, because it is an origami kayak that folds up and has a carrying handle.

I'm putting together a couple drawings and materials list for a stand. My first thought was sinking a couple posts into the ground and bolting cross beams in a "T" format, then add some eye-screw on the ends of the cross-beams for securing with line or bungee cords. After going down and looking closer at the area they will go, I think I want something stand-alone. I'm wavering between PVC pipe and lumber. PVC will hold up longer, but it's more expensive. In the meantime, I'm going to try to get one out on the water next week if the weather allows. Even if I just go to the park and back (less than 1/2 mile; about 700 meters). I took a discovery class Bean a couple years ago when the 'yaks were given to me. Between the work going into selling the house, buying this place, moving, and MLSIL's hospital stay, I haven't been able to get on the water.

It's been a birdy kind of weekend:
* I heard the bald eagle yesterday.
* The GBH was back on the dock, this morning.
* There are some ducks I haven't identified though I think they may be black ducks.
* I hear the loon(s) daily but still haven't seen them.
* Male and female cardinals were on the deck railing at the same time, getting peanuts.
* A dark eyed junco has been here pounding at the peanuts. It sounded like someone knocking at the door.
* We had a juvenile blue jay on the deck yesterday.

The little J is so ugly, he's cute. Reminds me of a few barbers I've had.

Still hot here in St Louis. We planned on going to the Hispanic festival this weekend, but may still be too hot. Was looking forward to the food, booths, and performances. My camera has been sitting idle most of this hot summer.

I’m always amazed at how us photographers go through life. Some as we’ve read don’t touch their cameras for quite some time, I know a photographer who buys 3 rolls of film once a year, goes out and shoots them all within a couple of weeks and then doesn’t touch his camera for another year. Myself, my photographic habits are sometimes quite bizarre. A minimum of 10 outside shots per day in all weathers. I’m an all weather guy..

We've skipped a couple ourselves around here - one was more due to wildfire smoke than heat/humidity.

I freely admit I'm getting to be a lightweight if a shoot is close to home. On vacation I'll power through anything, but around here I'm more demanding of decent weather.

Last Monday wasn't too hot. It was only 90. I took photos of my grand's tennis match. The remainder of the week has been heat advisory of around 100. We stay in and the school has canceled sports.
Yes, vacation you make exceptions. I need to go to Mexico where it is cooler
