What's new

The Coffee House

. We walked a little over 18,000 steps while we were in New York,

Wow, I struggle to get a fourth of that daily. The weather here has been cold/blustery, and to much going on to drive to the mall. Plus our mall could double for a meat storage locker, last time we were there it was warmer outside than inside.

Morning y'all. Had a charity event contact me on Thursday to do photos with Santa on Saturday (yesterday). I felt bad about it but I had to turn them down. The event has been planned for weeks, but they waited till two days before to contact me???? I was already overloaded last week, just no way I could do it.

Next weekend is the four day holiday weekend, so that means watching A Christmas Carol. starting with the original 1935 , then the classic Alastair Sim version, moving on the the Geroge C. Scott version, and finally my favorite, the Patrick Stewart version.

Friday I purchased boneless chicken thighs and breasts, a bag of masa harina, corn husks, chicken broth, and Anaheim peppers, and have cumin in the pantry. Now, what to do with those ingredients hmmmm? 😁 My LW tried out a new cookie recipe, and it is now on my list of favorites, dark chocolate with dark chocolate chips and a touch of cayenne pepper and cinnamon. I will recreate the recipe and try smoky ancho chile instead of cayenne.

Hmm...Tamales, maybe? Just a guess. Yeah, check out the NYT for alt cookie recipes. Experimenting today with an update of the old CHEX cereal-based "cocktail mix" my folks once served to their martini-swilling pals. This one uses maple syrup for sweet and tamari soy and furikake for salty balance. Brit frau made a pile of mincemeat yesterday bound for small bite-size tarts. I'm fond of the sweet, smoked Spanish paprika--tons of flavor but no heat that can be added by other means. Cold room well-stocked with beer, vino and booze. All we're missing is snow but walking behind a snowblower isn't my idea of fun! Merry Christmas and best wishes for 2024!

Just for you, I'll add this "We the North" outdoor Xmas tree from last year. As an ex-pat American from AZ, this stuff just kills me. Better than tumbleweed snow men!:

Sounds like a case of your procrastination is not my emergency. Crazy!

In spite of waking up yesterday with a head cold moving into my chest, I got two of the ornaments done. Nothing fancy but still a bit of practice. These are cocobolo ( a member of the rosewood family). Hopefully I'll feel better tomorrow so I can get the other two done after work.

I appreciate it, bur these are also basic. The metal bits are part of the kit.

I haven't seen the 1935 version in years - can't seem to find it anymore. 😕 I love the Alistair Sim version, from 1951? I think. So good! :586:

Never seen either version with George C. Scott or Patrick Stewart - both such great actors, I imagine they chew up this part! I wonder if I could find the Patrick Stewart version streaming anywhere. 🤔

These are beautiful! You're calling them basic, but they turned out great. Love the wood. Nice work!

Thank you, terri. I really like the one with the lighter band of color. I have two more ornaments, a fountain pen, and a ballpoint pen and pencil set to do.
