This one the tight little dress has so many hi spots making her look like she has rolls and my skills are not enough to be able to edit fabric but I liked the tonal quality and overall feel of it.

1: The conflicting patterns on the necklace and the head peice makes for a very interesting frame for her face. Not sure the ensemble was intentional, but it works really well.
2: Can't say I am a huge fan of this shot for a few reasons. The shadow, the light on the window where the "TO" is and the words "and Retail" coming out of her head, are really distracting to me. I think I can see your reflection in the window as well. I do love the color and composition of the shot though.
3: The conflicting lines of her legs to the boards work well here. Aside from that though it is a pretty drab picture. I do like the purse out of focus and the angle her feet are at, but the image just feels lacking something.

I dressed her and yes, careful thought went into each piece.
The reflections in the window are a bit distracting thanks to the large white building across the field but I hadn't thought I was in the image...but I see what you are looking at now and darn, it just might be!
Yup, just a shot of her legs and the angle of the wood. Agree but not sure what.

C&C per req:

1. I like the overall look here, nice lighting, clothing, MU, etc, but the skin looks just a tad over-worked, and there seem to be some artefacts of the smoothing on her neck near her hair, espec. image left.

2. I think you just missed a great image here. You needed a CPOL to deal with the window reflections, and I would like to have seen all of the text in 'Wholesale' and 'Retail' visible, but that's minor. Her pose and the direction she's looking make me think she's seen a friend and is just about to get up and walk away.

3. I like the idea here, but the angle of the boards, and the blown decoration on the purse make it a 'near miss' for me.

All that said, I think they're good images, and most of my points are rather nit-picky.

Blown decoration: I didn't stress on this as I put less emphasis on the purse and more on the stockings but ya.
I travel light and left it at home...actually I have 2 very expensive ones and rarely use them - FML

John, dayum you got some good eyes, are you looking at it full size on flickr? You nailed my grievances with the image even though I tried my best to clean up the left side of her face/neck with great effort.

Again, I rarely show my pre-edited files but for sake of furthering my education (and perhaps others?) I'll show you what changes took place.



I'm really trying to push the boundaries a little lately. BTW my wife is 50 young.

#1: Your wife is a lovely young woman without any photoshop. I do the same treatment to my wife's photos (62) but only so the world can see her as she appears to me (if I'm being cheeky I add ..."when I take my specs off").

#2: I like #2 as well, I can't see you, even with my specs on. Why look for you when there's such a pleasant alternative?

#3: Nice legs but the angle of the boards perturbs me, too. I want to straighten the image (OCD) but that would make her tilt.

I spotted it on the posted image, and confirmed with a large-size Flickr image.

A bit about the editing - too much is worse than not enough. Always. If she is 50 then 50 she is. No magazine would publish a photo altered that much. Not sure if the photographed person would be entirely happy as well. Cleaning the skin and some overall adjustments might be good but you need to know when to stop. If you use any blur filters than use masks to hide the areas of the image that shouldn't be blurred, like necklace and clothes. Also, be careful with making the skin to bright. Overall a nice try, I'm sure next one will be much better

I appreciate your comment but you might find argument with established photographers like Lindsay Adler who Wil say there are no rules or restraints for glam and is published plenty.

This wasn't about trying to stay true to life but as I've said push the boundries of my abilities.

She's lovely and my preference is usually more real and not so much edited but it's a matter of what look someone likes or wants to try out.

I can't help but notice details... the scarf seems to cover one eyebrow more than the other and the necklace and hair are cut off. In the 2nd I think the positioning seems a bit awkward, like she's trying to perch in place, and it doesn't make the dress seem flattering (and the top of the stocking shows above the striping). I agree in the 3rd the legs and purse seem like they aren't quite straight/centered.

And yeah, I think that shadow in the lower part of the window is your head; I agree a filter could work or if you wanted to use the reflection it would be a matter of moving around to get whatever is behind you reflected in a way that works as part of the photo.
