Another installment of the VPP... Kevin want a portrait before he retired, so we set up a session at the studio this evening:

Beautiful work!

Both are great shots but I love #2. Her smile seems so natural.

Wow, stunning really. Amazing lighting, pose, composition, color, character.... everything. June POTM.

Thoughts on these in monochrome (and a slightly different crop for the child)?

The monochrome works just as well. Good light is good light. I think the military men would want the color to quickly identify the commendations. The crop on the child would be fine if I didn't see the first one, it might be me but it makes her look heavier. Of course, you know I am no expert, just my opinion. She is a doll face.

I like the colour girl portrait. It has some special combination of shapes and black bgnd that makes her look like floating in he air like a little balloon. The colour just helps it all to pop up ( excuse my English, I hope you understand it). I would have trimmed the bottom white stripe on her dress to emphasise that effect.

Yes, B&W works well especially the girl. Like jc said "Good Light is Good Light".

I understand and I agree; thank-you!
