tips on portraits.

I mainly photograph the equestrian side of things to portraiture is new to me. What tips can you give? lighting? poses? natural? ect. Thanks )

What sort of portraiture are you undertaking? Single subject? Couples? Families? In-studio? Out of doors... What gear do you have available? Your question really is rather too broad to provide any meaningful answers without a little more detail.

Read Monte Zucker's Portrait Photography Handbook to get a start. People often mistake portraiture as pressing the shutter button with a person in front of the lens. That's taking pictures of people, but it's not portraiture. Portraiture is an art that involves skilled control of body position, light, color, composition, gesture and expression, even clothing. Without that control, it's not portraiture.
