Long time no see!

I had the opportunity to visit the horse farm where my good friend stays/is barn manager. Firstly, I am terrrrrrified of horses, but went with an open mind. I think I got some great shots, and started to conquer a little bit of fear

Most of them were indifferent toward my presence, but these two came out of the pen and just sauntered on over, nuzzling and smelling and the momma followed me around instead of her handler

#4 is my favorite of the bunch too!

Second is definitely soft, it looked OK before the flickr upload.

edit - nope, it really is that soft, just took a second look in PS.

They are exactly like overgrown dogs! Having owned a couple, I can assure you that they: will follow you around, are interested in what you're doing (to the point of being nosy), like extra attention, like it when you offer treats - and the list goes on.

That said, a healthy respect to their size and learning their idiosyncrasies is always good to keep in mind - just like you would with any critter. They may not intend to, but a startled reaction can do some damage.

Nice set of images, and I'm glad you're giving them a chance. Most of them are sweethearts.

I never even gave a thought to the fact they might have personalities... boy was I wrong!! They were getting impatient with my friend who was preparing feed buckets. Stamping their feet, throwing little tantrums! One had to get some meds and was not a happy boy about it - attempting to spit it out and showing us his gums lol

I also like #4.

Had a pony when I was a kid. Met him twice. Something about hoof disease or something. Think my mom got taken by someone when she was looking to buy one and have it boarded. All black really good looking pony. Just wasn't meant to be I guess. Mom didn't fib around it having to be put down. But I guess when they are already on the farm. You can't tell kids they were sent to a farm!

Thanks for the feedback! I've seen a similarly composed photo of a zebra that fills the whole frame, couldn't make up my mind to include or not!

I like it better without, but the composition suffers from that loss of "bottom" - I think it should stay.
