Tripod help

I have very similar legs to the ones in the picture. The versatility is great.
I got the 468MGRC2 head with the legs. I am very happy with the head. It feels like it will last forever (and it sure weighs like it). It's a ball head, but the neat thing about it is that it has a separate lockout for swivel. it even has degree marks at the base. It's great for doing panoramas. The only thing I would consider getting a different head for is macro work which I just started to get into. It would be nice to have a pan/tilt head for precise adjustments.

Gryphonslair, I have the 3265 Grip Ballhead. It worked fairly well at first, but will not hold the camera now at anything other than straight up.

If I remember correctly, that head has a single or possiblely two hex screws that you can adjust to tighten the head lock. They are on the side I believe. If you still have the head, check it out. If you liked the pistol grip idea, take a look at the 322RC2 head.

Thanks, I'll take a look. It does have a small adjustment wheel on it, which I have as tight as it will go, and it still can't hold any weight.

:edit: It has 4 hex screws on one side, but they are only to keep the two pieces of the head together. They are as tight as can be.

The 4 screws are as you described, assembly screws. There should be one hex screw that is inset pointing toward the ball in the socket area. That is the one that adjusts the grip on the ball. The wheel is to tighten or loosen the twist rotation grip of the head from side to side.

I will try to get hold of one again and see where the adjustment is. It may be under the trigger in the release slot area. It has been too long since I used that head. Sorry.

guys i cant tank you enough for talking amungst your selfs about tripods and heads, its give me such an in site to the more pro world of tripods.

i actualy think im going to go for a pan and tilt head, tho i could change my mind, as ive used them all the time befor, and i know how they work and how to use them.

prob go for a Manfrotto legs like the one in the pic but not exactly sure which ones, yet, tho not getting anything untill around feb as ill treat my self for my birthday

sorry to drag this back up but does any one in the uk know what websites does the Manfrotto 3021Pro tripod? and has it in stock?

finding it difacult to get it in stock or even to find a uk site which has it on there list

Does a pan/tilt generally head have more longevity than a ball head?
