Two BW for critique

Went up to the Mt. 's this weekend and took some pictures I thought would look good in BW. What can you say good or bad about these two.

Second one doesn't really have anything to hold my attention. I've taken these shots before - I love moss in the moment, but struggle to get a photo that really portrays it.

First, is better, but I would have reframed it a little (moved slightly to the right) so that the square cut in the background wasn't in the image. Very shallow dof, but I think it works nicely here.
