The cenote was shot with 9 exposures as the water surface was 10 feet below the ground surface and was completely obscured at normal exposures for the ground and walls.

When the ground is brighter than the sky, something just feels wrong...
#1 lacks the feeling of depth that I think it needs.

You've got some seriously distracting haloing going on in #2 that is making parts of the sky unnaturally dark.
