Took this yesterday near Hurst Castle on the South Coast of the UK..


Thinking of investing in some ND Grad filters...

Would they have made much of a difference to this shot?

Would you guys consider a tighter crop??

A G-ND would not have been appropriate for this shot at all since the subject (The light tower) goes almost all the way to the top. If you raised the G-ND enough so that it was above the tower, it would have had no effect. G-NDs are most useful in compositions where there is a distinct horiztontal or vertical "subject strata" such as mountains in the distance. What you might have considered was a two shot HDR, lowering the exposure by about 1/3 stop on the highlights and increasing by about 2/3 in the shadow.

I was thinking HDR as well. I dont think you should have a tighter crop at all, this view shows the size very well. I love those clouds as well.
