upgrade on my nikon p5000 or invest in a dslr?

Hi all, i'm still researching but like to throw this question out and curious on responses from this forum.

first off, i'm interested in learning photography. I don't own a dslr. however, when i needed to replace my point & shoot, i got a nikon p5000. it has a manual option on aperture and shutter speed. also compatible with a tele conversion lens TC-E3ED & wide angle lens WC-E67, also an i-TTL flash SB400/600/800.

question is, will they help me pick up photography? or is it a waste, and put this $300 into a dslr? (just the price on a dslr body + lens is more than double of the cost of these accessories...)

your suggestion/ advice/ opinion is greatly appreciated!

Id say get a used Nikon D40 with kit lens. They can be found quite cheap now. Read and read and read. Then buy.

You can learn "photography" with any camera.

I vote for investment into a DSLR. I carry two P&S often... but neither will be as satisfying as a DSLR.
