Use for a filter i have?

When I bought a lens on ebay, it came with a filter on it... just wondering if someone could tell me what it's for... this is what it says on it...
"Tiffen 58mm HAZE-1". It was on the 75-300mm Canon lens I purchased used. TIA!!

In the days of film, it was meant for just what it says, "Haze", that is, to remove some of the UV induced haze in the atmosphere. Since all digital camera's have UV filters built-in, they're generally only used as lens protectors. Tiffen is a good name in filters, so there's no harm in leaving it on.
