Photos NOT OK to edit
Ok, so there are plenty of idiots out there stealing photos. The newest thief is up on the StopStealingPhotos blog.

So his defense is he uses stock photos for the privacy of his clients (except there is proof he stole photos as well, so if he lied about that what else is he lying about?). What do you think? Is it ok to use stock photos as a photography company? Don't most people think that any photos used in an ad or website of a photographer are examples of their work? In my opinion, there is no need for a photographer to use stock photos at all. If you need examples and want privacy for your clients hire models and make a portfolio. What do you think?

Personally I don't think that a photographer should use stock imaging for anything other than icons, symbols and other such subjects that won't be mistaken for being photographs. The actual photographs that they display on their website and physical promotional material should only be work that the studio is capable of producing.

Now that can include having things on display that have had outside input (eg an editing studio or rental equipment/specialist services). But still it should only display what the studio is capable of producing at that point in time (if you lose your hired in editing studio you should drop their edited work from the promotional material as its no longer an item on offer).

I would also argue that if they want to protect the clients they can easily hire in some models to be shot, making sure that they only shoot those photos in the same manner as their product shooting would go.

It Neva ends does it.

I use royalty free photos in some presentations for the simple reason that some specific shots would be impossible to take, such as those that involve antique items or historical locations.
