I gave a try to creating some vintage Hollywood looking photos (like George Hurrell!). Any opinions on how they look, the lighting, etc? Thanks.

(I intentionally show the lights in the background to give a 'busy' feel)

I'm really liking 1 & 3. Especially #1.

In #2, his looking away doesn't seem right. I guess because he's looking away from the light, where in 3 he's looking towards it, so it seems 'right'.

#4, I'm not feeling the PP...

First image is the best and also excellent; please bear with me for this conversion

I see your point about looking away from the light. The catchlight is half in the eyewhites. Re: #4 thanks for the honesty. I was aiming for the faded B&W look, but it needs work. I appreciate it.

It does look like that - faded B&W. It just doesn't have the same feel as the others. Maybe if I had seen that one alone, it might be different. After the first three with a consistent style (which I felt fit very well), and then that - it just didn't fit in. Not that it was bad or anything.

I love the first one

LOVE the first one. The mood is right.

To create vintage portraits you need about 15 to 20 lights, all perfectly balanced. You will never see burn out or lost shadow detail in those hollywood images. Takes ages to set up but when you get it right the images come alive. try using as many home lamps as you can get hold of.

George Hurrell make grey color.

on my screen here i see more brown color.
and pershaps model is too close.

but nice anyway for me 1-2
