Rant.

My truck was broken into this morning. It would take an extensive, tedious effort to explain certain aspects of 'dealing' with the situation.. but, basically, my red jeep cherokee was found this morning in the middle of the road, about five feet from where I had parked it the previous night. My fiance leaves for work before I do, and but what, a minute after he left he returned and woke me up with a 'sarah, someone has broken into your car.'

What a surreal statement to wake up to. I am panicking, heart is pounding, mind is whirling I can hardly put on clothes.

We make our way outside - granted, it's raining hard, apparently our county is under a flash flood warning at the same time - and we find the driver's side window smashed in, glass is everywhere, and the stereo was completely ripped out. Wires strewn about. The interior is damp from the rain.

Call the police. An hour and a half later, someone arrives, frustration ensues - no prints can be conjured because of the soaked interior, insurance company can't get an appraiser to look at it until tomorrow or so.

That aside.. I am thankful that nothing else was destroyed. They didn't find my CDs, they didn't damage anything else. But it is still that.. that nauseating feeling of violation. 'It's just a car, shut up.' It's my property. Just try to imagine if it happened to you. Imagine having to call so many people to try and get this problem solved. Imagine NEVER having dealt with this problem before, and not having any idea what to do.

Imagine waking up to something like that too.

Again, I'm thankful that it's not any worse than it is, that it can be fixed (even if it will take some time). But I still have that lingering, sick feeling in my gut. I can't describe it. Whenever I look at the damage, it's like I'm not seeing it, like I've stepped out of my body. It's not the 'damage' per se that has me in this mode, but just.. the weight of the mere fact that it happened, that someone chose to do this. Chose.

so life goes, eh?

I'm really sorry to hear that :( I hope they are able to repair it for you soon, but I totally understand that feeling of violation.

Although, this is a bad thing to happen. My Cherokee was stolen out of the parking lot of a former job. Talk about a sick feeling. Walking up and down the aisles hoping you just forgot where you parked it. A week after getting it back and repaired, the same people broke into it again. They didn't get past the kill switch I had installed, but they had enough time to rip out most of the interior.:x

I feel your pain.

when I was younger a gas tank in the back yard blew up and took half the house with it. the sickening feeling comes in when you realize you'd be dead if you were home.

aside from that i got a sweet new bike becaues the other one was burnt to a crisp.

Man, guys.. I think we all - if not now, then later - have stories relating to that sense of violation and loss. I'm sorry to read them, and appreciate the kind gestures of relation and good thoughts.

The pain is felt all around. Domino gunshot.

I feel you on this. When my car was broken into I wanted a drag net put up around the city and all the usual suspects rounded up. The cop looked at me as if to say something, but my look right back at him must have been enough, cause he didn't say anything. Just know that you will get over this feeling, although not very quickly. Keep your head up and just think, they could have decieded to do this while you were still in the car. I'm just thankful you are here to rant.

Sorry to hear about this. At least the cops came, when this happened to me in Boston one time the cops said, "Sorry but we don't respond to these calls. You can file report over the phone". Also one time at work I left the keys in a van and went into the shop for 3 minutes. When I came out the van was gone. I called the police and they said they could send someone tomorrow, but I should drive around and see if I can find it. Sure enough after about an hour I found it and 'restole' it with the extra keys.

Soo sorry to hear about your car. It is a sickening and disgusting feeling and I hope all is well now.
I was broken into last year, and the unfortunate part was, I forgot my wallet in my jacket which sat on the back seat. They had everything. My ID, VISA cards, and some personal belongings. Not only did they get that, there was damage to the car.
They put over $600.00 on my VISA by 4:00am at various 7/11's, and along with that, my identity was stolen. I now have a block on my name for 4 more years, just in case, more is done to my name. I had absolutely nothing to prove who I was, and it took months to get it back. I sure learned a lesson that night.

I had mine broken into..lost an LCD head unit, line driver, over 100 cds, sunglasses, and a PS2. All in all it was well over $1500 worth of stuff. And of course the police did nothing (didnt even write anything down!)

My daughter and I had about $8,000 dollars worth of stuff ripped off a couple of months ago and my insurance only covered a small amount. She had a quad that they would not cover. It's suppose to have it's own policy since it is motorized. $5,000 bucks gone. Live and learn.

Not sure who I would rather shoot, the crooks or the adjusters.

Sorry to hear it happened to you.

i got home from work the other morning (about 6.00am) to find most of the cars in my street, including my auntys and my sisters boyfriends car had all been vandalised. My sisters boyfriends car was the worst, they had literally bent the door back like a tin of sardines then continued to break the stirring column in an attempt to steal it.

Later on i found out that a neighbours house had been broken into that night by a gang who dragged him out of bed while he was sleeping and demanded he handed over the keys to the nice sports car parked outside his house. The irony was that it wasn't even his car! so he had to give them the keys to his ford escort instead. Unbelievable

wow... sounds like you guys in america have a rougher time with the police than we do here in oz.

We've been broken into a few different times over the years and the police have always helped out enourmously.
My boyfriend's car got stolen about a year ago and they were great! They eventually found it and rang us up and we got it back. Insurance was great too replacing everything and quickly too.

I definately feel for ya though. That invasion is just disgusting and takes ages to go away completely.

Sorry it happened to you. I've had it happen 2 times and the sense of violation takes awhile to get over. It does go away though, just takes time. My insurance company worked with me except for stereo replacement.
Now that I am on the "police" side of it, I still don't like it. I know what it feels like, I know what people want done, and it can't. I can say this, it sure isn't like tv. I won't go into evidence collection in the event there is a thief around, but I can see why nothing was found or attempted.
We can only hold calls for 15 minutes, so an expected response time around 30 minutes if busy. I appologize if you had a bad experience with your local police. Not all are the same.
Hopefully your insurance company will come thu and make it right. That is why we pay I guess.

Yeah, but do you get many shootings in Oz? Cops have more important and life threatening crazy sh!t to worry about over this way. I'm seriously considering moving the Oh Zee. Girls are hotter down there too.
