I am so new to photography that I don't even have a camera yet (one more month). I was wondering about the lenses lengths. What do you use the lengths for. The D90 that I hope to get comes with a AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR. Will this be good for a few scenery shots but mostly portraits? Also what does the f/3.5-5.6G ED and AF-S DX mean? It sounds like I should not have to be asking this but i really do appreciate all feedback.
Thank you

the f/ number stands for the aperature, or how much you lens closes. The lower the aperature the faster shutter speed you can youse and the more depth of feil you have. Depth of Feil is when you are focused on a subject and the background is blurred out.

I would suggest that you wait to invest that kind of money in a camera until you really understand what you want and what you're getting....unless you have more money than you know what to do with.
