What do you recommend?

I am using a shoulder type camera bag. When I put a lens into it, should I put the front of the lens in first, or reversed, where the front of the lens is the end I grab when removing the lens from the bag. Or does it matter? What say you?

I always put the camera in lens first, just because it fits that way because of the flaps on the inside of the bag. Also, when reaching for the bag the back of the camera is meant to be grabbed, unlike the lens.

yup. and keep the front and rear lens caps on at all times when the lens is not in use. same with the body cam on the camera if you dont leave a lens on it.

It does matter to me and I put the lenses in so that the back-cap on the lens faces up.

I do this BECAUSE when I change lenses, I typically take one lens off the camera and put it in the bag, then remove the back dust-cap from the lens I plan to use next and put that dust cap on the lens I just put in the back (so I'm really just swapping dust caps every time I change lenses) and then put the next lens on the camera body. Since the rear dust-cap faces me it's very easy to swap the dust cap from the lens I'm about to use and put it on the lens I just put in the bag.

BTW, I don't believe this test question shows up on any photography exam. So if you want to do it the other way... go ahead. ;-)

As far as storing the camera with a lens attached, don't let a heavy lens hang from the lens mount on the camera, particularly if the camera has a plastic body.

The weight of the lens can pull the small lens mount flange screws right out of the camera body. This most often happens when the bag is set down.
