If the overall crop is very tight (as in your avatar, for example), then cropping the top of the head is OK, but if there is room elsewhere, as in the shot you posted, then the viewer feels like something has been cut off that really should be there.

I agree with SCraig. You are beautiful indeed. I too dislike horizontal crops on standing portraits of ladies--unless the background has something visually worthwhile. A plain wall simply does not advance the photograph as much as seeing more of you would! I know many photography enthusiasts compose this way. But answer me this: who would rather look at an empty wall, rather than the crown of your head, and the curves of your womanly bosom?

They do it here as well. I still don't think it looks as pleasing as a full face. True, there is seldom anything there, especially on the top of my head, but it sill looks like something is missing.

Not just in Russia.

Just be mindful that the vast majority of the photos on the Internet today are made by amateur photographers, and many amateurs with little understanding of photography, are just copying other amateurs with little understanding of photography.

It is lovely, but my problem is not the cropping so much as the black blouse with no detail under the chin. On my monitor , there is no detail at all and your head seems to be floating with no supporting base. Which of course our brain knows is not possible.

Further down of course, we can now see your wearing a lace blouse.
