What kind of camera straps do you guys like.

I like op/tech utility strap-sling. It doesn't have a bolt to screw in from the bottom of the dslr. I can mount on a tripod without releasing the strap.

I am with you on this one. OP/TECH USA Utility Strap - Sling

Price is really right too.

Yeah, thanks guys - I just ordered this! Price is right, and I like having my tripod quick release plate available. Plus the others were making me nervous screwing into the tripod mount.

I'm excited to receive it! I never even really knew these things existed, but I really don't like the neck strap - it's heavy, and I have a 2 year old. Do you know how many times I've bent down and clunked her in the head with my lens? Oops. Having the sling will help with shooting while mothering.

I agree with the others that getting the strap off your neck is important, just ask a chiropractor. You see a lot of black rapid straps being mentioned but keep in mind that there are many versions of sling straps. I have one that actually has a metal wire made into the strap so no one can cut it and run away with your camera. Works great for traveling in remote countries. The one thing I would say to look for on the sling strap is something that will keep the strap in its proper place on your body. Some straps will rotate while you are using them and you end up with the shoulder pad half way down your back. Look for one that addresses this issue and you will enjoy it that much more.

For my more used DSLR I have a cheap e-bay padded wrist strap (similar to video camera ones) mounted to a homemade aria swift tripod mount. (The less used one has a old neck strap put on it as it's rarely out)

My Panasonic G5 has a standard thin neck strap as it's light enough not to matter, and my full spectrum GF2 currently just has a compact style wrist cord, which is probably going to get upgraded to something more secure if I keep using it as much as have recently.

The video style strap is the best of the lot but I'm not sure it will work well on the GF2, I think the cameras too small for it. It would probably be good on the G5, but if I'm carrying 2 cameras one of them really needs to be on a longer strap.

I've never seen a strap thats up to the job of carrying my Toyo monorail, but the boot of the car works for that:D

Be careful using the ring on your quick release tripod mount, I had one of the rings let loose and down went the camera. Now I will only use the one that screws into the tripod mounting hole on the lens collar or the camera with a smaller lens on it. Lesson learned the hard way that that ring will not hold up and to use the mount designed for carrying the camera/lens weight.
I will put up with the inconvenience of having to mount my quick release when I want to go to a tripod, when you usually go to a tripod you are not in a hurry anyways.

I don't trust straps entirely. I Always keep my fingers around the tripod color or camera or lens regardless how good a strap is suppose to be. I rather be safe then have to fork over lots of money on replacements. I recall some post where straps let go with out warning. Carrying lite kit lenses it may not ever be a issue but start throwing on 5 -6 LBS or more of glass could be.

This. I dont think ive ever held my camera entirely unsupported, ive always got some hand contact.

I finally got my strap in the mail, and it is fantastic! What a great invention. It's going to take a couple of outings to sort out exactly where I like all the buckles attached and tightened, but it's great. I really like that it attaches to the body rings where a neck strap is supposed to attach, and while you only need one, I used an extender and hooked onto the other one as well as a bit of security backup. I'm very impressed.

I generally prefer the Domke Gripper 1 inch with swivel. I use them less as a strap and more as something to hold on to.. wrap around my arm.. or temporarily throw on the shoulder. The swivels/latch allow me to remove the strap itself and shorten it for my wrist. The straps drop right in easily into the bag without having to be shoved in. Which makes them ideal for two camera setup in a shoulder bag. Really practical reasonable strap....

My next favorite strap are the OEM straps that came with my Leica digital Ms. At first glance, they look like plain jane nylon straps but once you use them, you realize the subtle design features that make it very unique. Unique buckle system that makes it easy to attach and remove from the camera without tools in less time than it takes to work the key rings found on most other straps. The buckles incorporate a sliding lock mechanism that also acts a guard from scratching the camera. No loose ends hanging. The ends are sewed directly to the adjustment buckles. This means the strap cannot unwork itself and adjustment is simply sliding the adjustment buckle up and down rather than working a strap THROUGH the buckle. The nylon material is much more flexible and supple than typical nylon material. It literally lays on your arm. Its not stiff at all... almost like woven silk. The strap itself is thin and plain looking with rubber thicker padding in the middle. The padding is fixed... so it doesn't slide around where you don't need it. I like that they resisted printing their branding loudly on the strap. (Canon and Nikon straps are awful about that... very garish... black red or black yellow)

If the camera will be carried primarily by its strap, I have two straps from rileyg designworks. Unlike the gripper and the OEM leica, they are very plush, very wide, rather long with suede backing. Very comfortable to carry a camera without a bag. They are substantial and have many cool designs to fit your personality. What makes these straps comfortable to use as a shoulder strap on the other hand doesn't make them ideal for other uses. They are a little too thick and substantial to use wrapped around your wrist. They don't lay well because of their plush design so getting them in and out of a bag quickly can add a few seconds. I have to drop the camera into the bag, then neatly roll the strap up, and then tuck the roll ontop of the camera. The "tapestry" straps tend to be thicker as they have more layers of material... you can see in the picture the additional material and double stitching on the edges of the strap. Other straps such as their Dapper straps tend to be thinner more flexible.

All three of those straps have survived several systems and kept me happy over the years.... haven't felt the need to try something else. At one point, I made a sling strap (similar to the black rapid) out of nylon material and buckles found at the local hardware store. Less than $10 bucks. It definitely allows for quick access to the camera but I just couldn't get the hang of it on daily everyday use. For outings dedicated to photography, yes.. but for everyday.. it didn't work for me.

Okay, stupid question probably but I'll ask anyway. Does any of you use a shoulder strap while carrying your backpack (with the rest of your gear in it)? I'm guessing it would be rather uncomfortable with two pads on the shoulder.

I'm looking for a strap that would allow me to carry the camera all day without having it banging on my chest while still carrying my backpack.

I use the RS-7 + brad strap
