I have a Canon 7D and it came with a 28-135 lens. It seems cumbersome indoors when I want to shoot family members and close ups. Is there a good, reasonably priced ( up to $600.) lens that I can shoot indoors with a wide angle that will capture more of my subjects. Also, will it be good for outdoor use as well? I guess what I am asking is, what is a good all around 2nd lens to purchase? What would you buy next if you had to? Christmas is coming and my wife wants some gift ideas. Sox and underwear are getting too repetitive!

i have this lens, and love it. a little over your price range. it is good for outdoor landscape shots as well.

or i'd go with a prime lens, either a 28mm or a 50mm. i have the canon 50mm 1.4, great lens but you may find yourself zoomed in too much for close indoor shooting.

The 'all around lens' champs are the 18-200, 18-250 superzooms.

I won't own one myself, just sayin'.
