What lens should I rent? Where should I rent?

Ok guys!

So I'm not really looking for opinions on if I should or if I shouldn't....

A good friend of mine who has known me for years who is going thru a tough time finaically bc of health issues asked if I would photograph her wedding for her for free. I was already planning on visiting CT and my friends and family so I revolved my dates around her wedding and am heading home!!

I am going to use the body I have (t2i) which I know does not do too well with low light but I am going to rent some better lens. What I was thinking was the canon 17-55 2.8 and the 70-200 2.8.

I also have the 50mm 1.8 and the 480 flash which I will have a bracket to get it off camera OR I was thinking of renting a pocket wizard to be able to get it comppletely off camera if I'd like. I'm also bringing a light stand and umbrellas with...

What is a reputable company that I can rent from? I was looking at borrowlens.com but wanted yals input!

Can't comment on lens-rental services in your area, however your choices are a good start. If the budget will permit, I would recommend a UWA (10-11mm at the wide end) for the group shots (if req'd) and a second (and preferably more powerful) speedlight. Good luck!

Rent through Borrowlenses.com, or aperturent, lensrentals.com, rentglass.com. Have it shipped to a home address so you have it while you are there. I don't use an ultra wide on a crop body, personally. I have the 17-50 and it's a nice range overall, but I get into trouble with distortion on the wide end. Easy fix in PS now.
For a wedding I could do it all with a 70-200 f/2.8 (preferably with OS) and either the 17-50 f/2.8 or preferably a 24-70 f/2.8. The tamron that has the VR if they have it!

Check the local area you'll be traveling to and see if anyone rents lenses from there. If you can walk in day before, pay cash, and return the next day you might save some money and have less of a hassel to deal with. Your choices are good, I would personally go with the 28-70 f/2.8, but if it's going to be a crowded reception in a small place the 17-50 will probably do better. If there is no local rental place, I'd go with borrowlenses.com I've never used them, but they seem to be the most popular and I've never heard anything bad about them.

I have used LensGiant.com and BorrowLenses.com BorrowLenses.com is in CA so shipping is going to be more than LensGiant who is in the midwest. Renting local in CT will cost a bit more and you will probably need to give them a credit card. A lot of local stores will place a hold for the replacement cost until you return it so don't give them your debit card. I rented from a place in Hartford while on a job and my lights went kaput. The advantage of the online companies is you pay only the rental fee and insurance (no holds on your credit card for thousands). The down side is the shipping and the possibility of damage when you fly out to CT. Borrowlenses.com does have a pick up store in NYC for only a flat $25 courier fee. Nice if you rent a lot of heavy equipment.
