What Mega Pixel is that? my young nephew uttered when I started taking some shots on my Olympus OM1 35mm Film Camera. I was quite shocked that the young seem to be unaware of Film. I have recently been shooting film in addition to my digital work as I find it adds value and excitement to my work.

I was in a Camera store getting some film (they didn't have any), and there were 3 teens with a Rollei TLR. They thought it was a polaroid camera. Than later in the day i met a kid who had no idea what dial up internet was.

I'm not old by any stretch, but damn....

When I was in Shanghi, I met a young couple walking along the Bund and they were shooting a lomo with a daisy flash unit and fuji instant film. So there is hope.

I have one of those... I got it at a hipster clothing store...

I typically just answer the question in a way they would understand. If I'm shooting 35mm film I tell them 10-14 megapixels (depending on the film I'm shooting), If I'm shooting medium format I tell them 50 megapixels, if I'm shooting large format I tell them 150 megapixels.

35mm could also be 24megapix ;). In anycase I miss film...

I've heard similar stories to this before, it disappoints me that even teens are ignorant about film.

The only experience I've had of this is when I came across a video on YouTube where a child was reviewing his newly found AE-1, the statement that comes to mind is "I don't know how many megapixels this thing's got". I paused and stared in disbelief.

Ahh but I wonder how many were saying

"These new age film photographers - I'm shocked how many don't know about glass plates!"

back when film started to come around ;)

I'm more annoyed that people think megapixels are the be-all end-all for cameras.

I got my first digital camera 5 1/2 years ago. Until then I scraped by with a dinky film one with no settings whatsoever. The world opened up for me when I started digital, and I taught myself up to DSLR level. Instant results really got me to learn the controls.
Now I am so curious about film SLRs. My husband has an ancient camera and taught me how to manage the controls. Unfortunately, the film release button is broken, and I ruined two rolls by not being able to roll them back into the canister.

My boys, ages 5 and 7, observed me, and were so intrigued at the concept. Photos that are created physically, not electronically! They couldn't be any more surprised if I would've told them there is a bird hammering out images on slate inside the camera a la Flintstones. When the initial shock turned into curiosity, I bought them children's film cameras. They are in love! I don't often let them shoot with film, as it gets expensive printing everything. They have a P&S digital most of the time.
I was amused at how novel film seemed for them, when I was still using film on them when they were babies!
