    I came across this inspirational quote from Ira Glass on the NAPP web site. While not specifically aimed at photography, he is a radio personality, I thought that it was relevant to this site and maybe will help those just starting out, or those who have been at it for short while and are still in the "starting out" phase, to understand that the creative process doesn't just happen, it is something you have to work at.

    ====================================================
    “What nobody tells people who are beginners — and I really wish someone had told this to me . . . is that all of us who do creative work, we get into it because we have good taste. But there is this gap. For the first couple years you make stuff, and it’s just not that good. It’s trying to be good, it has potential, but it’s not.

    But your taste, the thing that got you into the game, is still killer. And your taste is why your work disappoints you. A lot of people never get past this phase. They quit. Most people I know who do interesting, creative work went through years of this. We know our work doesn’t have this special thing that we want it to have. We all go through this. And if you are just starting out or you are still in this phase, you gotta know it’s normal and the most important thing you can do is do a lot of work. Put yourself on a deadline so that every week you will finish one story.

    It is only by going through a volume of work that you will close that gap, and your work will be as good as your ambitions. And I took longer to figure out how to do this than anyone I’ve ever met. It’s gonna take awhile. It’s normal to take awhile. You’ve just gotta fight your way through.”

    Ira Glass

    Very well stated. It is a journey, dues are required.
    I tell people "if I had known how hard it was going to be, i might never have started".

    Clearly the OP has never shopped at Best Buy. Because you can now buy a camera with 'pro' built in.

    Nice post. I like Ira Glass.

    tyler - thanks for pointing that out - I guess I missed this whenever he posted it - not a problem - just that I liked it and thought I would share it with others who also may not have seen the original posting - it would appear there are a few.

    Cheers,

    OK first of all...you can't just go blurting out that there is no spoon. You're likely to just short circuit a few brains like that.

    Second....until a mind has had several hours of intense sim-training going from cave-wall drawings all they way up to modern infrared and HDR techniques, a mind is probably not ready for "there is no spoon".

    Damn...show a little restraint with that stuff will ya?
