What part of the globe would you describe as a photographer's paradise?

Whether country, fascinating landscapes, unusual terrain, beautiful areas, cool architecture, most interesting people, or whatever, where you feel is a photographer's paradise? What inspires you to keep your camera clicking the most?

I mainly shoot abstracts, so it doesn't matter a lick where I am at, I'll find "subjects".

As long as your camera can hold up, I would say the rain forrest would be a pretty big win, at least for macro and wildlife shooters. There are all sorts of amazing creatures and vegetation there.

Thanks! This isn't quite what I had in mind, but I LOVE this answer!!!! What's also interesting is that I asked this question on another forum and got a somewhat similar answer, although the guy also played it straight and answered "India".

When I thought about this, my first impulse was to say Pushkar, India and secondly, Palani, India. In both areas, the colors, architecture, people, clothing, magic, experience, and gorgeous setting inspired me at every turn.

wherever I am with camera in hand but to date the most interesting place I have been is Cambodia.

Miranda Kerr's house...fer sure!!!!!

Yeah, that's a great answer. We went to the Amazon in Brazil and felt the same way in general, and I'm not specifically a macro and wildlife shooter either. The photo that I am using for my avatar right now, Floating Down the Amazon, was taken from that trip.

Now, I'm gonna briefly derail my own thread here. :D How do you like the Tokina 11-16 f/2.8? I'm strongly considering getting one for my Nikon D90.

Okay, I'm not gonna comment on each post, seeing as there are two more cool answers from Trever and Derrel, posted just while I was writing this!

I'll shoot whatever I find in front of me, so, I never really thought about "ideal" or "dream" locations.
I recently went on vacation/photosafari to Louisville, KY, St. Louis, and Indianapolis. I went to take pictures, and had no idea what I would find in any of those places. I think that is what is more magical to me. No preconcieved notions of "the perfect sunset" the "amazing landscape", etc...It's all about the experience, and the hunt, wherever I may be. I am open to shooting anything though. Like I said, if it's in front of me, and it's interesting, I'll take a picture. :)

Iceland, but i'm like Bitter i shoot lots of abstacts

If you can't find something to photograph, regardless of where you are, it's only because you aren't looking properly.

I completely agree, Scott. I'm simply wondering which place inspires you the most (photographer's paradise)? Although I certainly feel that I can find something to photograph no matter where I am (and often do), I have to confess that some places are astonishing and inspire me greater than others.

That's because any other place is "Different". It's not necessarily that there are "Better" things to photograph elsewhere it's just that we are so accustomed to seeing things close to home that we don't notice the diversity that is right around us. I have friends in Arizona and when I visit them I feel like I could stay for months doing nothing but taking photographs.

No matter where you are there is someone, somewhere, that wishes they were where you are to enjoy the variety of photographic subjects.

Certainly the area you and I live can't be discounted Ken

So true. California is so amazing, definitely a photographer's paradise.

Banff and Jasper Alberta, Newfoundland, Quebec City area, north of Lake Superior, in Canada. St. Lucia, Martinique, Guadeloupe down south. Serengheti plain and Kilimanjaro area in Tanzania and Kenya, coastal areas of Ireland, river areas of Germany, architecture and cities in Dubai and that general area,...the list goes on.
