What's new

What part of the globe would you describe as a photographer's paradise?

Now, I'm gonna briefly derail my own thread here. :D How do you like the Tokina 11-16 f/2.8? I'm strongly considering getting one for my Nikon D90.

It's a great lens! I don't really have any experience with other UWA lenses for Nikon, but the Tokina is very sharp even wide open. There are a lot of people that will say that having an f/2.8 aperture is pointless on a 'landscape' lens such as this, but when I went on my honeymoon to Punta Cana, DR, it proved very beneficial in taking photos of the suite we stayed in. One of these days after christmas I'll finally get time to edit some of the photos of the trip and post them here on TPF, a lot of them taken with the 11-16.

There are interesting things to photograph wherever you go! I've never considered one place or another "better" than the next.

I know this wasn't an answer you were looking for, but it does make you think.

Some places on this planet are so beautiful that you could strap a camera on a dog and come back with gorgeous images. In other locales, a photographer has to really work to convey his vision. Some places just don't lend a helping hand, but a good photographer with vision can really capture the emotion of a place not so seemingly beautiful or interesting at first glance.

Yes, and it's the former I'm inquiring about. I know about the second. I photograph my back yard, my neighborhood, my city, everything and always get interesting photos. But it's the first part that inspired me to start this thread. What parts of the world do you think are that beautiful?

South India, near Palani or Ooti, is one such area. The Himalayas are fantastic. The Brazilian rainforest is another for me.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. To some the streets of London hold beauty - to others the hills of Scotland and to some the content of their back garden. Trying to list all the beauty spots in the world and you'll mostly get the world back. So the only way to work it out is to go out and shoot and find your own beauty to capture.

The one you're in. :)

Although I agree with Bitter, I don't shoot just or mostly abstracts but I can find something to shoot anywhere.

Now, after seeing "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" I wanted to go to China because of the amazing landscapes I saw in the movie. But I've wanted to get to China for a while anyway, lol.

You know, most places away from home are exotic and they seem to offer more to shoot but it's not really true. There are beautiful opportunities everywhere if we open our eyes and our mind. I would like to offer you a challenge: go to the place you would think of as the most boring for a photog and make it fascinating.

Cheers.

Whether country, fascinating landscapes, unusual terrain, beautiful areas, cool architecture, most interesting people, or whatever, where you feel is a photographer's paradise? What inspires you to keep your camera clicking the most?
I have a couple of favoraite spots.
One is the Red Rock country of Arizona (Oak Creek Canyon)
Number two would be the Indian ruins and surrounding countryside north of Flagstaff Arizona.
However I think that the Grand Canyon area is way over photographed.
Also for raw beauty the Chiricahua national park in So. Arizona is hard to beat.

All the places i've already been too and all the ones I have yet to see.

My photographer paradise would have to be in Europe. Most likely Rome. The old artwork and buildings, but also the nature, and rivers and beaches. I would love to go there

I would like to go back to Rome too...

Well, the only place I've ever been outside the US is the Caribbean, and it was definitely a photographer's paradise.
Now, if you'd like to provide the funding, I would be more than happy to do some more extensive "research" on this subject and get back to you. Heck, you pay for the travel, I'll write you a whole BOOK rating the world on a "photo paradise" scale. :lmao:

Seriously, I agree that most everywhere can be a photographer's paradise. I am blessed to live in the East TN valley, in the shadow of the Great Smoky Mountains. There really is so much beauty, and diversity in my little neck of the woods that I really never get "bored" with what to photograph. Even our downtown area still holds my interest, after several years of working downtown. I still absolutely love to take a long lunch break, grab the camera and go explore my surroundings. And nine times out of ten, I'll come back with at least one photo of something I never noticed before.
