what 's the best 1st lens to own?

another question...i have a sigma 28-70mm f/2.8 with my canon eos A2 film camera...can i also use that with the canon 40d?
Yes.

True
Basically it means its an expensive (and worth it) lenses from canon, not necessarily any English word.

Just get the cheap 18-55 until you learn more about lenses and figure out more about what you want.

I wish canon made a 17-300mm f/1.2L IS USM. I would never have to take it off my camera. But then again the thing would probably weigh 20 pounds and cost $10k

^ They do have stuff sorta like that for the movie industry. They weigh at least that much if not more and cost more like $100k, LOL

I picked up a Sony a100 with the kit lenses 18-70 and 70-300. Then with in 2 weeks I picked up a 50 f1.7. I find my self using the prime more than the small zoom lens. I am actually contemplating getting rid of the 18-70 and getting another, shorter prime.

If it where me I would get the 50 1.8.

Yes, the 28-135mm is an EF lens. But it works like a 28-135mm lens. Just like the 17-85mm lens works like a 17-85mm lens.

Sorry Mike for my bad English ;p

I was try to say because of the 1.6x crop factor issue ....... you know what I mean.

My opinion is, if you have a sigma 28-70 2.8, just but the 40D and start shooting, and save up some cash for future glass, or if you want to spent your full $1500, skip the 1.8 and go for the 50mm 1.4.
