understand Aperture, shutter speed and ISO, watch youtube vids there are tons of tutorials but COMPOSITION IS KEY something that you have to develop over time. Once you have an idea how things work then ALWAYS try to shoot in MANUAL. Then after all these then try learning photo editing.

Go to galleries, get magazines, look at other photographer's work, figure out what works and what doesn't. A mentor is also useful, if you assist for someone who's already doing it, there's a lot to learn... just remember to check your ego at the door: they are the master, you are the padawan... don't try to impress them, learn from them.
