We can debate all day and night about it but w/out any of those 3 things, (or Photography gene) I guarantee you will not succeed.

WITH those three things, can you gurantee I WILL succeed?

That's up to you. I don't speak for you. But w/out them, you can't. Fair enough?

This pro-photographer thing looks pretty simple to me... buy a camera, hang a shingle, go take pictures.

As in almost any field, this is just a part of the reality. We live in a big, complex world of different realities for different people. I will concentrate on my reality and others will concentrate on theirs. Hence, it is simple.

If one is to concentrate on another's reality, that person is doomed to failure.

Some people call it - "to each his own" ;)

It sounds like you're saying we should keep our opinions to ourselves, no?

I skimmed this, so not sure if anyones made this point yet: In life typically someone has a hobby and a dayjob. One pays for the other. One is a labor of necessity while the other is a labor of love. Combining the two is one of the greatest and most rewarding things that many people never get to experience in life. So with that said, I think in many instances, there is what you LIKE to shoot, and what is practical/pays some bills. So I personally love shooting everything from birds, to landscapes to abstracts. However, if someone offers me a wedding gig ( assuming its not a nightmare scenario ) it would be good to be atleast somewhat competent so that I can support the labor of love side of photography.

I agree with Goonies. I am a people photographer by trade I suppose. I shoot mostly portraits, and then events, weddings, engagement, advertising. I make my money on pretty much anything people. I shoot everything else as a hobby.

I am a jack of all trades photographer, master of none.

JK.. I want to just do mainly weddings. I want to stay away as far as possible from family photos. Too many MWCs.

Voted: Take photos of anything. :) With that said...

I wish I could agree and say that anyone can become a pro if they follow the above said guidelines...but I really don't think that's true. Purchase the most expensive equipment you want but I think you either have it, or you don't.

I sort of compare it to picking up an artbrush and being told that no matter how much I practice, if I persevere I'll be able to paint a masterpiece. Notta gonna happen. :sexywink:

I think the real 'pros' might sometimes feel intimidated by those who claim to be their equal, when in fact, they are no way near.

As for me, I'd be happy to have ONE LITTLE OUNCE of their talent. In the meantime, I'll just keep clickin' and dreamin.'
