What would be a better use of $500-$600?

I currently have a Canon EOS Rebel XSi with EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS and EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II lenses. Now, I was wondering if it would be better to:

a) invest in a solid wide-angle lens (currently looking at the EF 28mm 1.8 USM, but I'm open to other ideas)

or

b) swap my XSi for a 60D.

Either one would run me approximately $500-$600. I figure the lens would give me more creative opportunities, but the 60D would provide me with a much better camera. I don't have the cash to be dropping upward of $1000 on a single lens, so I'm trying to get the best bang for my buck with what I can afford (if you couldn't tell by my current lens lineup). What do you suggest?

Hard to say at that point. Most people will say lens, but I personally wouldn't own a Rebel ever again. That's after owning two. It's not that the camera isn't capable of being used by a photographer that takes great photos, I just can't stand the control setup and the way it feels compared to an XXD or XD camera.

Of course, I've had grips on all my cameras after the Rebels and can lug around a bag full of f/2.8 zooms, a flash, radio remotes, and other crap without it bothering me too much over the course of a day, so the weight is not a factor for me.

Lens people: What's the reasoning?

Lenses are the first thing needed to create photographs. Everything else is useless without them.

You will be better off with a good lens and a mediocre camera than a mediocre lens and a good camera.

Another vote for the lens, that camera will create good photos regardless. Its the lens that will give you the quality and allow you to work with your creativity allot more than a new camera. I think once you have a descent amount of lenses then upgrade to a better body

Really?

I would be interested in seeing you shoot a photo with your lens and no body :)

Now, I know what you are really saying but you need to watch how you say things, lol. This place is full of people who don't get the basics and that means the basics need to be explained correctly.

Try shooting without a lens. You'll probably end up with a memory card full of gray cards.

I would suggest a flash then upgrade the lens then a diff body down the road...

For 50-200$ you can easily pick up a used flash(its a must) off craigslist and still have 350-500 to spend on a lens :)
Also add a inexpensive and awesome 50mm 1.8 lens which can be picked up for 70-120$ used and you would still have 200-300$ left for other toys or perhaps another fast zoom lens or save to upgrade the body.
