Why the 200-500? Get telephoto primes. Or the 200-400 at a minimum.

Nikon and canon both have it. The canon has a built in teleconverter.
The Canon is horrendously expensive even by these standards.

Ah ok. The Nikon isn't cheap either! And I actually think Nikon includes a 1.4x TC with the 200-400, but that might have been a special during a certain time. Depending on what he's shooting of course, but you know most primes offer a sharper image, if he's got the cash and don't mind switching lenses more go that route IMO. Don't have the adjustability, but man is that 400mm f/2.8 just a beautiful lens.

The Canon 400mm f/4 DO would be an easier sale due to sheer size of the f/2.8

I guess there are certain folks to whom status is the important consideration in purchasing gear. I'm not among them. I'm concerned with results, not public opinion.

I've always worked in the camera industry and understanding why people buy has always been more important. I was a sales rep for a camera company in the halcyon days of digital cameras.

People who buy for status have far deeper pockets. The prices of Leica custom bodies is over the top. And people would happily pay a $500 premium for a Typ 109 over a LX100.

I'm trying to get people to understand that the new Sigma Art lenses are far better than OEM. By still the cheap name of Sigma is hard to overcome.

Other status products include Billingham bags, B+W filters, and Gitzo tripods.

I guess for me I'd simply explain to the client, look - do you want to show people your camera and have only a couple of them who actually know anything about cameras go ooohh.. ahhh...

I guess no matter how much money you have it makes zero sense to me to spend money for no valid purpose.

First class and coach do both go to the same place, but first class has some actual benefits that make sense and are worth the money for some.

So if I can get first class results by spending the same amount as I would on coach, then I find it pretty silly to pay for a first class ticket just to brag about paying for a first class ticket. To me that's just stupid.

People buy cars like Lamborghini because they go like a bat out of hell and they look cool. So if you want a car like that and can afford it, great.. if that makes sense to you more power to you.

However if I can buy a Lamborghini for $140,000 or I can pay 10 times that for a Lamborghini that has less performance and doesn't look any better, then it's just stupid to buy the more expensive model just so I can brag about how much it cost.
