It looks too "moist" to be a banana. When I cut my bananas they don't look like that.

Yeah, but then you're not magnifying the daylights out of them, you're just eating them.

MLeek, it's actually the spots on the side that are convincing me it IS a banana--that's definitely what I think the peel would look like, magnified quite a bit.

I am totally not certain on this one. It does look like a banana, but the spots on the side are throwing me...

Yeah..the center looks banana-like, in a way, but the SPOTS!!!!! It looks like "some kind" of organic item, like a vegetable or fruit...but that crazy spotted pattern!!

Is it one of those rare, wild, Canadian turnips? Or some other oddball root or tuberous plant from the wilds of Ontario (meaning your back yard)?

But there is no line where the peel would be ON it. Slice a banana with the peel on it and you can tell where the fruit inside and the peel are two different things.

Love the egg comment! LOL!

I am pretty sure there is something like that on the chinese buffet... And I DO NOT want to know what it is...

I don't know. The line doesn't have to be well defined. This looks very close, IMO:

You got me on that one. You guys are right on the Banana. I'd have never noticed the spots on the inside of the peel cross section if you hadn't posted that stock.

We, the photographers, notice these things! ;)

Well, I see we had some fun with this one. Dwight got it on the first guess.

I debated whether or not to show some of the skin in the frame, wondering if it would make it too easy or just confuse folks; seems it worked both ways.

the skin was what "confirmed" it for me... though I started doubting as the day went on. :) Glad I finally got one right.

Thanks for the "whatsit", Ron.

When I first looked at the photo, I was like "I'm not even going to try guessing that one". It didn't remind me of anything, then I took another peek and it immediately clicked. Since that point on I was 101% sure that was the right answer. It just couldn't have been anything other than a banana.
