It is a digital back. It attaches to a camera. It has 39 MP (compared to 10 MP for your average entry level dSLR). The sensor size is 36.7x49.0 mm (compared to 24x36 mm for the most expensive cameras from Nikon and Canon). Those are some of the reasons why it is expensive.
