I was sitting here this morning looking at the calendar and realized that there is cause for celebration. (Well besides, the holidays we have the next two weeks) What else is there to celebrate, you ask? Well the 21st is winter solstice and is the shortest day of the year. And that is cause to celebrate, days getting longer means more time to get out and take photos. Yeah!!!!!!!

That's a very good way to look at, Ron!
As much as I *try* to always see the positive side of things, I admit, the official First Day of Winter and Shortest Amount of Daylight in the Year generally just drags me down. For me, it's the official beginning of "Will Sharon Actually Survive Another Winter?" season.
However, THIS year for the first official day of winter, it's supposed to get to 70 degrees here. So there's that. I absolutely DREAD January and February, but the longer we can go with temps like that, the happier (or at least, far less miserable) I'll be!

Longer days equals...

More time to do yard work.
Harder to get the kids to go to bed (its lighter out longer).
Youth sporting practices go longer (more light).
Neighbors always want to hang out more.
Its harder to sleep in the office in the morning (more light)
Harder to sleep in (more light)
Harder to go to bed early (more light)

Give me the dark and bleak of winter any day!!!

I can understand where you are coming from Sharon. I just want it to be nice outside, where I can get back to photowalks. I got addicted to them too late this year and then I got my 70-200mm f/4, so now I really want to get out and shoot. But maybe I can get some things arranged and by the time I get to start going back out again, I will have upgraded my 28-135mm to a 24-105 f/4L.

Hang in there, we will make it through.

Summer just means the morning Golden Hour starts at friggin 5:00 AM, and the evening GH doesn't show until well after 7:00....... :er:

yep but right now they are flipped morning GH is at 7:00 and evening is at 5:00. Hard to get much shooting in the evening when you get off work at 4:00-4:30.

I have to say, I'm with Lost on this one. Longer days and warmer temperatures stress me out. Everything gets too bright and too loud. I like winter.

I'm a morning person, so I actually LOVE getting up before sunrise in the spring and summer. Sure, right now sunrise may be later, but it's WAY too freakin' cold for me to want to do anything but stay under the covers!

yep but right now they are flipped morning GH is at 7:00 and evening is at 5:00. Hard to get much shooting in the evening when you get off work at 4:00-4:30.

Even harder when you don't get off until 5:30 or later; I really HATE it when it's already dark before I get off work! Makes it tough for me to find the motivation to do much of anything except go home and go to bed!

I not so sure I can get as worked up about this whole solistice deal as you have Ron. I mean most of the fun has gone out of it since they stopped the whole human sacrifice deal.

Light snow here this AM, switching to rain about 8:00...and MAN,oh MAN, it is DARK this morning! f/4.5 at 1/40 at ISO 1,250, and it's "full daylight" now. ACK!
