Milky way shot from the phone

I haven't taken any milky way photos this year, keep forgetting my Google Pixel 8 has astrophotography mode and so I gave it a try. Takes around 4 minutes to complete but what you get is a rather impressive photo from a phone. Even if I don't have a "real" camera anymore, I can see use my phone...

    Milky Way over Bezbog Lake

Bezbog - Directly translates to "Without God" This is shot in near black dark after we returned from the hike; I'm not super happy with the noise in this one, but I love the shot and think the lake and mountain range offers a little depth. Thoughts? D850 - 14-24 2.8 @ 14mm, F/2.8 - ISO1600 -...

    Milky Way Above Pirin

So this past weekend we were stuck for plans, Decided to escape the city again and planned to climb Polezhan peak in Pirin (2850m) to watch the sunset across the Pirin Mountain Range, Coupled with that, my photopills informed me that on that evening there would be a 0.4% moon, we checked the...

Stars Trails over Shiroka Laka - C&C

God damn these gaps! Around 160 shots compiled, ISO640, 20 secs Any advice on fixing these gaps? I used the D850 internal interval timer and was forced with the 1 second delay but these gaps seem too long for that?

    Canon G9X

I have a Canon G9X and am going on a cruise soon. I want to take a photograph of the night sky. There is a place on the ship where you can do this. Can anyone tell me the best settings for this? Thanks

    Mountain Greetings

We'd just driven 40 or so minutes and I was hungry for a cigarette before we started trekking to our chosen spot, we pulled up in the car, stepped out and marvelled at the sky immediately. As we were driving we couldn't see the stars, as we climbed we thought the morning would be a washout...

Waking at 04:00 ..... Oh I'll do it again!

So we headed out to the mountain in search of sunrise, and it did arrive again, however, as we walked through the dark, I knew thee galactic centre had visibility until just before 06:00. As we marched through the 6ft of snow I stopped to marvel at the sky, stars everywhere... I set up and...

Cause of this lens flare and "fog"? Also, advice for shooting the moon.

Hey everyone, I am new here, just now registered to ask this question. I bought my first proper DSLR 6 months back, and have been using it mainly for video, though I have done some photography, mostly just to practice techniques and familiarize myself with the camera. I wouldn't call myself a...

    Shooting the Stars

I've been practicing shooting the stars, but they don't turn out as good as I wish they would. Any tips on how to do better long exposures? I shoot on a crop sensor if that has any impact on my results. I would eventually like to do time lapses of the galaxy.

    Another terrible try at Astrophotography

I waited all week for the clouds to clear so I could go outside and shoot for the new moon. No luck. Tonight, it seemed, was going to be my night. And it was! ...for three minutes before new clouds rolled in really fast. I wasn't really pleased with any of my shots, so these are all pushed in...

    Midnight Milky Way

I've been struggling with my photography lately, like not being inspired to shoot and last night when I was looking at the sky before I go to bed, I noticed how super clear it was and decided to stay up a little longer to capture this. I know it isn't perfect, but each time I do it, the better...

Just Off The Blue Ridge Parkway

Hey Everyone, I took this shots this past weekend at Moses H Cone Memorial Park (MP 294 on the Blue Ridge Parkway). For these shots I used my Canon 6D and a 24-105mm F/4L USM lens with a polarizer. I don't have one yet to play with but I'm wondering if a ND filter might help out on some of...

How do I take photos in pitch black?

I recently bought my camera (Nikon D7000), and I always wanted to take pictures of the stars. However, I cannot figure out how to make the camera take the picture. I think that when the camera can't find the depth of view or something to focus on, then it won't take the picture. Therefore, when...
