Well, in keeping with the American theme of wasting food, here is another egg shot that would make a starving child cry.

This is an egg shot by a very low powered .22 pistol cartridge. It's too bad I didn't get it all in frame, but in hand timing, I'd say it went pretty well. I really like how the movement in and out of focus with the DOF gives more of a sense of action and motion.

Your thoughts and suggestions are welcomed and encouraged.

Yeah, I would say backing the camera up and getting it all in frame would be a huge improvement.

I think better timing rather than increasing frame size. It would have been a lot cooler if I could have gotten this image a fraction of a fraction of a second earlier.

There will be other attempts.

wow! that looks pretty cool regardless.

i'll be looking forward to seeing future attempts.

Thanks!! Seeing as the setup is a little more involved when using a firearm instead of a mousetrap, I can't just pull it off every day. I will be sure to post more when I have the resources to set it up again.

Any suggestions for other things to shoot and capture would be very appreciated and more than likely tried if they are feasible.

Fore example...... "a Kiwi fruit" is feasible, "the Neighbors Cat" is not.

I've got a pretty decent list already, but having things to add would be great.

Pretty cool. How are you triggering the flash?

A glass bottle (beer bottle or something) would probably be cool. Either full or empty.
It would kinda be a shame to waste a beer, but it might be cool enough to make it worth it.
Practice on empty bottles, lol!

I have a photo idea that is kind of like this but im new to the topic and have no clue how to time it. How did you do it?
My idea was in the Christmas spirit.. Hobby Lobby sells glass christmas ornaments that you can fill with different things like glitter and paint. I want to fill one with red paint and shoot it with a sub-sonic .22 against a white background.
I also want to try a balloon filled with colored water.

SWEET.

I timed it by going "Ok..... One.... Two.... Three.....GO!!!" and pulling the trigger and pressing the button on the off camera flash at the same time.

I'm going to STRONGLY recommend against this method with a glass ornament...... Even though my hand was behind the muzzle at all times, and a realtively safe distance away, it still got a healthy coating of egg white and shell fragments. I can only imagine what hundreds of tiny shards of glass would do....... Especially under hydrolic pressure..... Even subsonic will make a real mess of what you are proposing to do. The round I used was a sub sonic round and egg remnants and fragments of shell were everywhere.

EVERYWHERE.

Get a sound trigger (around $20 or so...), and protect your camera with some plexi or something.

Also post it when you do it. I'd love to see it!

Nice timer haha! What camera settings did you use?
When you say sound timer... Do you mean sturdy or literally triggered by sound? I can make a plexiglas box no prob, but the lens is my concern. I'm not sure shooting through plexiglas will provide a sharp image

Also, the quote in your signature is by lary the cable guy if my memory serves me correctly

'Sound' as in 'audio'.

(The video shows you how to make a pressure activated trigger, and a sound activated one.)

Pretty sure this guy is a member of the forum, though I can't remember his user name here. (If not here, he is on a few other ones - so if the video is familiar, that's probably why.)

EDIT
I guess he doesn't really show you how to actually build the sound activated trigger in this video (just how to use it)... Anyway - google 'DIY sound activated flash trigger' or something like that. There are kits you can buy, complete units you can buy, or you can just go to Radio Shack and get all the parts for a few bucks. ...Actually, I kinda doubt that Radio Shack will have a PC cord. They'll have everything else though.
