Your methods didn't work. And no wonder.
Take out post #2 and the situation would still be the same. The OP was looking for spoon feeding. The OP has no real need for 9600 dpi. The OP's question indicated a lack of knowledge about scanning either negatives or positives. Sure I could have done the simple fan boy thing and said Epson V600 and left it at that. Why? Would if fit the OP's needs? Would it fit the OP's price range? Would the OP even understood how to get the best from the scanner or any scanner?
Instead of talking about dust, scratches and culling why didn't someone if they were that interested suggest something like this. Slide copying at (almost) zero cost. An in-house solution by and interested newbie on the forum.
It has gotten too easy to ask uninformed questions these days. There are more people than one on this forum that have a degree in education. My children were sent to school everyday with the notion that they were not going there to GET an education. They were going to school to TAKE and education from the resources provided. The teachers weren't there to hand feed them anything, it was their job to go there and learn. If they didn't know or didn't understand it was their job to seek out the resources, learn from them and acquire the knowledge they sought.
I am most anxious to see how you and a few others from this thread choose to respond to this newbie posted today. ?
