A **NEW** self portrit of me...Feedback appreciated!

I preveously posted a self portrit of myself and I really wasent happy with it....But I love this one! What do you think is it better than the old one??

Cutting off body parts is something often done by beginners by mistake and experts by design... it's the journey from one to the other that's the challenge. In the mean time, try to avoid cutting off arms and pieces of your head

Just put the empty space on the other side, you don't have to change what you are staring at

Sometimes (most of the time really) you have to decide what the 'subject' of the photo is and concentrate on that. Find ways to make the subject, the obvious subject to the viewer. So is this a shot about the texture of the tree bark or is it a self portrait about you?

That's why I like the first one better. There is no mistaking who/what that shot is about. Also, in the first one, the subject (you) is making eye contact with the viewer, practically forcing them to look at the face, which is where you want them to look. In the new one, you're looking off frame, which doesn't engage the viewer nearly as much. It may make us wonder what you are looking at, but that doesn't usually make for a better photo.

Personally, the older is better. Though I'd crop to portrait orientation.

The tree doesn't work for me. Nice textures, but are you sure that's what you want to show in a self portrait? Also, it makes the picture seems divided in two. The line is to clear. I'd crop to portrait orientation here as well. Might leave some of the tree, but currently it's too much, imo.​

I'd get a tri-pod and head down to mississippi border, there's tons of great places to shoot there. I'm hoping to blow off a day and get up there and shoot before it snows.

you could have been peeking around the tree looking left, i think that would absorb the space on the left much better

I don't quite understand what your photos show. Is it portrait of you or tree? More you, less tree. : )

WOW thanks to all of you for the great advice! Im going to try again and see what I can do to really nail a picture with this feed back. This is really a huge help thanks all!!!
