I enjoy outdoor photography and I am very much a photographer hobby-est, not a professional. I'm still learning. What are your thoughts as to positioning, lighting, etc? CC always welcome and appreciated!

Nice! I think it might benefit a little by upping the darks via the Curves function in whatever editing software you have...

But I like it either way :)

I would agree with rexbobcat, it needs to be darkened up just a bit. The other comment I would make is to watch out that your background elements do not detract from your main subject. In this case, the yellow flower in the upper right is a bit of a distraction, not much, but you do need to watch this sort of thing.

For what its worth, I love it! Exactly how it is. Very nice shot.

It's not a high-resolution, super-scientific-type macro shot...it's more like a beautiful watercolor painting. It has a delicacy that many macro photos lack. The detail is more impressionistic than super-realistic, and I think that's okay. The positioning of the bee is pretty good. THat big, red rose thorn in the upper left corner is a bit distracting, and the yellow blossom has been mentioned...overall those types of background items add a bit of an unstructured, "romantic" (classic romantic-era movement of the early 19th century) feeling to this shot...the verdant, overgrown, unstructured garden...bursting with flowers of all types, in a rather helter-skelter planting pattern. The main flowers are nice. Nice colors. Good "bright", summery feeling. As a "scientific macro photo-graph" [said with a thick British accent...] it's not too good...but as a PICTURE, it's pretty alright.

I think it is a bit busy but still nice. I agree with Derrels comment about it being more impressionistic. I think that is a great way of describing it.
