Best Camera for $300

Right now all the deals I am seeing comes with the lens kits so I am pretty much stuck with it. I'll be a amateur photographer so I really don't think I would mind it. Later in life if I want to move on, ill let better Cameras/Lenses.

your decision. Its cheaper to do the 50mm thing...The 18-55mm I believe costs 120.00 by itself.

Some of the new point and shoots look pretty good.

If I can find an XT(going to require a good amount of luck) ill go with it. If not a P&S will have to do.

XTs are not exactly diamonds in the ruff. I can roll a baseball down the road and it will run into a store selling one. What are you going to up your budget to?

not sure if I'd chose the 28-90 over the 18-55mm but I guess depends on what you're shooting.

Canon might not make the 28-90 anymore.

I'm lurking around ebay for deals on XTs. I am willing to stretch the budget a little if it means a DSLR(good choice right?)

I don't think you'd ever regret that. I just got a Pentax K100D Super for $350. It was the floor model in a local shop and I know for a fact it hadn't been on display for very long. Came with full warranty. There were incidental costs of course (bag, memory card, uv filter, taxes), but still a heluva deal.

The "Standard" kit lens is generally 18-55mm 3.5-5.6 I believe This 28-90 might have more useful range for walk around usage.

I am trying to push my luck and find one under $400. I have found one at $400 new with lens and will probably go with that unless I can magically find something better or get lucky and win an auction(if people would stop placing $50 raises to max bid days before the auction is done )

I actually started off 8 years ago with a film camera (picked it up for 200 notes) then brought lenses, First digital was a fuji 3000. then a fuji 7000 then a sony cybershot H2 and now a pentax K200D

This camera provides AMAZINGLY sharp results and the 10x zoom is fantastic. If you want easy, sharp, travel pics without the hassle of an SLR this is for you. I started with this and it totally hooked me on photography and I am now experimenting with both film and digital SLR.

Under $300 for an Xt shipped to your door, its used with no lens though.

I trust photography-on-the.net far more than I trust ebay. If you really want a canon I would browse their for sale section, its where I got my 10D(for about $300 a year ago) my battery grip, my 70-200, my elan 7e, and my old sigma 24-70. All have been in great shape and just as described. they love their canon stuff over there and 99% of the folks there are honest about all of their stuff.

EDIT: I take that back I got my 70-200 over on the Fred Miranda forums.

Just be careful if you get the xt used. Make sure you check the amount of cycles.

at this rate I don't think im going to find one im satisfied with unless I pony up an extra $150+

Ill probably end up buying an A560 or an A720. Probably the 720 because its a lot cheaper.

Go to Best buy, Ritz camera, Target, mess around anywhere the cameras are on display...see what you like and feel and than go from there. I believe there's a lot of sony users here.

unfortunately I don't have the luxury of time. I leave for Europe on the 30th so if I don't find anything on ebay, I will probably be ordering something off of newegg on monday. I would do adorama or B&H but due to the holiday I wouldn't get it in time.
