Hello.
I haven't been around, I've been a bit busy.
But I wanted to do a quick shot for fun.

I used a single cheapie Sigma strobe.

any thoughts?
I know the lighting is harsh, I didn't diffuse it.
I'll try bouncing it next time.

Edit:
Nikon D90
Nikkor 70-210
Hand held
About 1/160th if I remember
And I think I shot it at 5.6 if I remember correctly.
Will update with exposure when I get to my camera.

You know I noticed that too...
Is it because I suck and am doing something wrong?
or possibly lens limitation?

I edited the original post with some extra info, to help people give CC

Not bad, but seems overall slightly under-exposed to me.
Okay, thanks

Would this be more of a brighter light kinda situation, or maybe shooting slower?
It's got very very little, to no ambient light, mostly all strobe.

I assume I should make the white's be more white, rather than this bluish grey thing that's going on, yeah?

It is quite soft, but I do not think that your lens is to blame. You just simply missed the focus point.

The hard light is great. It adds to the photo, but I would have probably have chosen a different angle. The shadow from the handlebars are on the top (nut buster) bar takes away from the photo. Also, I would have tried to catch more of the hard shadow of the bike because I think it adds to the shot.

Thanks for sharing!

Since the comments about the shoot are taken care of I will comment on the subject.

I don't like the spring that you have used to hold up the bike. Get some one to hold the bike and jump out of the way just before you take the picture. That spring probably weights as much as the bike does.

Level the cranks having the right crank that is facing you forward.

I like the photo. Good job.

Yeah i like the photo although its slightly out of focus, maybe Photoshop the spring out? and like pen said level the cranks Nice job otherwise.

Thanks for the tips.
I'd rather not do the "jump outa the way" method as I would rather not drop this bike, nor risk it
BUT I'll work something around it.
Maybe just edit it out, or find something else to hold it with so it's level and in more of a 'track stance' as I would call it.

Yeah, I tried bringing that and the shadows within the cranks and rear wheel set out in post as much as I could
When you say ad more hard shadow, do you mean like shadow upon the ground?
Or shadows along the body lines and contours of the bike itself?

Thanks!

there is some white things of the top, probably something in the background that was exposed. you might wanna take that out just to have to full black background.

Yeah, I noticed that after I posted :P
I shot this in the courtyard area at the dorm rooms, so there was a decent amount of ambient light, and other stuff.
I'll be sure to pay more attention to whats going on in the back.

Okay so everyone agrees my focus is off.
And you mean this in 'form' not composition, correct?

Any tips on focusing this right?

I just autofocused, upon the bike it self.
Should I focus, just a hair in front of the bike?

Why did you save it as a .PNG? Making the spring go away is no big deal, nor is working on the sharpness and the exposure:

Sorry, I had posted an edit, but you don't allow that so.......

OK, now that you have changed you edit preference in your profile...Here it is;
