Cable Release For 10D

I wish Canon fan had been around when I bought my cable release dognabbit!
The problem is that Canon (and some others) have their own special connector so unless you have access to a) a machine shop or b) are willing to make a Rube Goldberg imitation you're stuck with buying the manufacturers item.
In all fairness the Canon connector is well made and the switch has the half down and a lock position also the wire itself is decent material but I gotta agree that the price is steep all the same.

You can normally find a plug that you can cut up and use. When people make their own release for a Minolta they tend to get an audio plug from a cd-rom drive and cut a bit off. It fits perfectly. You can also buy plastic which goes soft in hot water and use it to mould a plug.
The original plan when I made mine was to shove three pieces of cheap speaker wire over the pins on the camera and force soft plastic into the holes. When it'd set I would pull it out and have a perfect plug.
