Camera Help

The Sony looks a lot better... If you scroll halfway down the page and disregard the information on the top half.

I recomend looking at the lens lineup along with the % of market. The bigger the market, the bigger deals you can find in the future; remember once you buy a camera, you marry their combination of accessories/lens/flashes.

Some Tamron/Sigma lens don't even exist in the Sony mount. I would stick to Canon/Nikon, but this is just a personal preference.

Thats a very good point subscuck. But then would you recommended the Canon Rebel T2i or the Sony Alpha DSLR-A580? Which one looks better based on what you see in the link?

Canon Rebel T2i vs Sony Alpha DSLR-A580

All of their data comes from DXO Mark. I don't take much stock in DXO Mark. DXO Mark sometimes shows $200 crap zoom lenses having better #'s than $2000 lenses. Guess which lenses are actually better?

Sorry analog.universe, I don't know what "you're sketchin me out" means...

I think that it is a good resource, why would you suspect anything wrong of me? I'm just trying to find a good camera for me to buy and so far I am think of the Canon Rebel T2i or the Sony Alpha DSLR-A580. Any help with what you think is the better choice?

I own a fair amount of Canon glass, so Canon is always the choice for me. For you, I can't say. Instead of basing your decision based on #'s derived from a very suspect source, read real reviews (not user generated reviews) and go to some camera stores and actually handle the damned things.

Wow, you guys are finding fault in every word I say, maybe I should just shut up.

If I'm wrong and you're actually looking to make a camera decision, my best advice is to go to a store that has a variety of models and play with them all. In the end, the numbers mean very little... if you like to use the camera, and it's organized in a way you're comfortable with, then it will not prevent you from getting good shots. Buying something based on numbers that you end up having a hard time working with or figuring out, will prevent you from getting good shots.

True, I guess it's all up to me from here. Thanks guys :)

It also comes down to how the camera feels when you hold it.
I don't think how it feels when you hold it matters very much at all. At best, the issue is like number 27 on the list of concerns.

If it did matter prominently, cameras would come in different sizes, like hats. There would be men's and women's sizes, - "I'd like to try the mens, 8 3/4 and 8 1/2 size a580, to see which feels better when I hold it.

Humans have more manual dexterity than any other creature on the planet, and can easily adapt to the slight variable nuances in DSLR camera brand ergonomics.

Well you came to this forum with the intent to draw on the photographic knowledge of its forum members because you stated that:

I'm not that knowledgeable in cameras so my camera logic isn't that polished.

So, are you really that surprised that people with a lot of DSLR experience are finding fault with someone who isn't that "knowledgeable in cameras"? We're just trying to help.

Now your just making me feel bad lol

But yes, I agree with you :)

OK, then if you're really serious about purchasing a DSLR, quit looking at raw numbers that don't tell you anything about a cameras true performance, and lay out some specifics such as your budget, what you think you would like to photograph, and how serious you are about really learning photography. These things matter.

I actually wanted to get a camera that can shoot good footage and take good pictures. The Canon Rebel T2i seemed like a good choice to go with since it can shoot 1080p at 30fps and 720p at 60fps. It also has pretty decent still capabilities so I think this would be a good idea. The only thing left is waiting till I can finally find it stocked in some store to test it out. This camera seems to be a popular product.
