Its a battle between the d5300 and the d7100 I can afford both I just need other peoples opinions

You should read some posts of ppl moving up from the consumer bodies to the 7x00 series bodies.

The point is, it is the photographer and a bunch of other stuff, not the camera.

I'm a little bored of this kind of thinking. Yes, we all know, you have to know how to compose a shot.

Your camera also has to be able to do what you want to do with it. I decided on a D5300 over a D7000 mainly because of the better low light ability and the sensor size. I really liked the 1/8000 shutter speed for the D7xxx series over 1/4000 for D5300 series, but wanted the better ISO to noise ratio of the D5300 (along with some of the other features).

My old camera was a D40x. The sensor was small so I was limited with cropping (sometimes necessary for small subjects), it produced a lot of noise, I couldn't get shutter speeds fast enough in low light, and no matter how good of a photographer I am or ever become, I am LIMITED by the hardware of the camera.

Cameras won't take good pictures without a good photographer, but a good photographer can do so much more with a high quality camera.
